Learning from "bad" UI - (37signals)
When Gruber first linked the TripLog/1040 UI by Stevens Creek, I wasn’t kind either. Bright colors, controls seemingly placed at random. It was the opposite of what designers strive for in our circles. A mess. Soon the Flickr page was a schoolyard of insults. And then something interesting happened. TripLog’s designer Steve Patt posted a comment amidst the bile to share the rationale behind his design. The many who chose not to listen to him won’t learn anything, but the rest of us may find fruit in Mr. Patt’s thoughtful explanation and twenty years of software experience.

Sender 11: The anatomy of a text input field
There are two interface interface elements of typical mobile user interfaces that does the heavy lifting. That is the Text Input Field and the List. I thought I'd share with you some of the usability considerations that is going into Text Input Fields at mBricks. The keypad is well suited to number entry, but ill suited to text entry. Entering text on a mobile phone is hard, and people tend to avoid it if they can. The less text input you have, the better. But you can't avoid it all together. Text input fields are suitable for plain text, numbers and passwords. For entering specific data types like date, time, number ranges etc. you should not use a text input field. Instead use Multi-field Input or a selection widget like a Calendar.

How to Code HTML Email Newsletters [HTML & XHTML Tutorials]
HTML email newsletters have come a long way in the five years since this article was first published. HTML email is still a very successful communications medium for both publishers and readers. Publishers can track rates for email opens, forwards, and clickthroughs, and thereby can measure reader interest in products and topics; readers are presented with information that's laid out like a web page, in a way that's more visually appealing, and much easier to scan and navigate, than plain text email.

» 8 fonts you probably don’t use in css, but should - Web Design Marketing Podcast & Blog
CSS has brought us many capabilities in terms of typography and the web, but we always seem to be limited to the same 4-5 typefaces over and over again. There is an inherant problem, if the font you specify isn’t on the viewers computer it won’t render in that font. So as designers and developers we end up selecting the ones that we can safely assume is available on most computers today. So most pages use Arial, Helvetica, or Georgia as their typefaces… and the world of the web remains slightly more bland.

the product usability weblog: Simplicity: Functionally and Visually
Simplicity is something to strive for apparently. Muji does it. Philips does it. Paris does it. It just might become the 'user-friendliness' of this decennium: an appealing, but somewhat vague notion of 'goodness' in interaction. We all agree: it should be there, but no-one is exactly sure what it is. Or is really sure, but everyone else disagrees. To some it means getting what you need, to others it means leaving out the frills.

Credit card icons are an essential part of every online-shop. They are often used to indicate available payment conditions and purchasing options. The clearer they are presented in the online-shop, the easier it is for potential customers to figure out if they actually can pay online in this shop. Therefore when it comes to the design of an online-shop there is no way to get around using some credit card icons.
