ICSE 2009: Cyber Home

  • Cloud Computing as a new paradigm for deploying and managing services on
large distributed infrastructures poses interesting challenges for
both academic and industrial research. In this workshop we would like to challenge researchers and practitioners to think about various aspects of cloud computing.
First, to avoid the pitfalls of heterogeneous programming paradigms, what are the software engineering challenges that will face developers who target the cloud as their production environment to offer services?
Second, how is cloud computing going to face the challenges around soaring service management costs.
Third, what are the new business models for services that could optimally leverage the cloud economy of scale.

Html Htm SHtml

What is the difference between the HTM and HTML extensions?

  • Practically speaking, there is no difference between the two
extensions. Both denote that the file contains HTML. This
is really a matter of convention and is not an absolute, but
most realize that a file whose extension is htm or
    html contains HTML.

Review of Submission 384

  • The
small study (If I understood correctly, it is more accurately described
as "3 groups of 4 participants each" or "12 participants divided in three
groups) highlights a very narrow circumstance of use
  • The experimental results are weak - I presume since significance is not
mentioned, that no statistical tests were done.Is this correct

Review of Submission 384

  • there is a
piece of prior work that the authors should be aware of and probably
should be cited. The Piazza work at Sun way back in 1996 proposed the
value of sharing awareness of people working electronically “nearby” you
(i.e., viewing the same data using the same application at the same
    time).
  • out of place in the first point in the
“Implications” section to talk about a design evolution from a rolling
bar to the Peer List—maybe it’s interesting to report as a lesson
    learned

Review of Submission 384

  • Is a web
search an example of "pull"? Social bookmarks are initially motivated by
personal recall and search - not group sharing use. Does this mean social
bookmarks is not a push, but actually a pull paradigm?
  • The key argument focuses on shared awareness of past visitation for
teammates. Thus, the paper can begin with a general examination of
issues around collaborative web browsing, awareness of web activity, etc.
It can propose that focusing on shared awareness of past visitation on
pages is the key - supported by arguments around "The presentation of
data matters" and "Simple data is still meaningful and powerful". Then
introduce the system and experiments to support these claims -
particularly to contrast team results with community results. The paper
can then conclude by hypothesizing bigger implications for future work.

Review of Submission 384

  • It would be helpful if the authors could address this
in a rebuttal with a clear indication of how the paper could address this
    point.
