Ninth Wave Designs: The Search for the Wild Blackwing

    • In my search for a replacement of what I consider the best pencil ever manufactured, I needed to find a pencil that had at least these qualities established by the Blackwing 602:

      1. Dark smooth graphite with a slightly waxy feel to it.
      2. Graphite that doesn't smudge easily (eliminating most grades over 4B).
      3. Reasonably priced (i.e. not so rare that you have to buy at collctor's prices).
      4. Produced by a company with commitment to pencil quality (to avoid future heartbreak should they stop production on a whim).
      5. Staedtler Mars-Lumograph 100: 4B
      6. FaberCastell Noblot Ink Pencil 705
      7. California Republic Palomino: HB
      8. Sanford Design Ebony 14420
      9. Prismacolor Turquoise 02268: 4B
      10. California Republic Palomino: 2B

Creating Passionate Users: Conversational writing kicks formal writing

  • If you want people to learn and remember what you write, say it conversationally. This isn't just for short informal blog entries and articles, either. We're talking books. Assuming they're meant for learning, and not reference, books written in a conversational style are more likely to be retained and recalled than a book on the same topics written in a more formal tone. Most of us know this intuitively, but there are some studies to prove it.
