Firefox ADM Enterprise Distribution

In an Enterprise environment running Active Directory, Internet Explorer is preferred because of the ability to centrally manage, lock and set defaults for a large number of settings. Unfortunately, there is no similar set up for Firefox. Until now...

Automating Local Admin Password Changes -- Readers Weigh In -- Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Online

The first solution came from Kurt Hudson, who offers a very nice VB application that allows you to remotely change local administrator passwords across your domain. You can download his tool by navigating to his Network Utilities page. Just scroll down until you find the Domain Admin Password Changer and you’ll see a link to download the tool.

Forgot the Administrator’s Password? – Change Domain Admin Password in Windows Server 2003 AD

Supplement

Robert Strom has written a cool script that will completely automate this process. He wrote:

"My script is really just an automation of his process which performs all the post cleanup of itself. Launch one script and it's all done. No manual registry entries, the service is created, the service settings are all imported into the registry, etc."

Download it from HERE (186kb).

Windows Admin Password Rescue CD

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, Bootdisk / CD\n\nI've put together a single floppy or CD which contains things needed to edit the passwords on most systems. The CD can also be installed on a USB drive, see readme.txt on the CD.\n\nThe bootdisk should support most of the more usual disk controllers, and it should auto-load most of them. Both PS/2 and USB keyboard supported.\n\nTested on: NT 3.51, NT 4 (all versions and SPs), Windows 2000 (all versions & SPs), Windows XP (all versions, also SP2 and SP3), Windows Server 2003 (all SPs), Vindows Vista 32 and 64 bit, and some say it works on Server 2008 also.\n\nDANGER WILL ROBINSON!\nIf used on users that have EFS encrypted files, and the system is XP or Vista, all encrypted files for that user will be UNREADABLE! and cannot be recovered unless you remember the old password again If you don't know if you have encrypted files or not, you most likely don't have them. (except maybe on corporate systems)\n\nPlease see the Frequently Asked Questions and the version history below before emailing questions to me. Thanks!

Folder Redirection not redirecting - Petri.co.il forums by Daniel Petri

Here's how we do it:

Setup the users' profiles on the fileserver (this is the AD profile folder for all domain users):

H:\Profiles

This folder is shared as "Profile$", has "Everyone" with "Change" & "Read" permissions on the share with security set to Domain Admins with "Full Access" and Domain Users with "List Folder/Read Data" and "Create Folders/Append Data". This should be pretty much standard.

You would have all your users' profiles as sub folders.

In a GPO, create the following settings:
Quote:
User Configuration (Enabled)
Windows Settings
....Folder Redirection
........Application Data
............Setting: Basic (Redirect everyone's folder to the same location)
................Path: %USERPROFILE%\Application Data
............Options
................Grant user exclusive rights to Application Data Disabled
................Move the contents of Application Data to the new location Enabled
................Policy Removal Behavior Restore contents

My Documents
....Setting: Advanced (Specify locations for various user groups)
........Group Path
............SCL\gGpl_HomeServer_MyServerSite1-SRV \\MyServerSite1-SRV\Redirected$\%USERNAME%\My Documents

Options
....Grant user exclusive rights to My Documents Disabled
....Move the contents of My Documents to the new location Enabled
....Policy Removal Behavior Leave contents
Note we use AD groups to assign users the server which we want to house their profile as we have multiple sites.

Hope this helps.

Folder Redirection Broken in SP3? - MSFN Forums

*FIX FOUND*

After spending countless hours on the phone with Microsoft. I believe I have come up with a couple different fixes/work-a-rounds.

1. Replace %system32%\fdeploy.dll with the one found in SP2. This will solve all folder redirection issues pertaining to this post.

or

2. Make sure the users' profiles' folder structure has a "Desktop", "My Documents", and any other folder that you use redirection with. The fdeploy.dll that comes with SP3 handles folder redirection differently and will error out if the profile does not have those folders.

If you can, please post how you have your folder redirection set up and how it was fixed.

Nate
