They are hired on a temporary basis, by agencies. They work as cleaners, they do maintenance work and they act as security guards. The bosses and the agencies that do the hiring treat them like dirt.

Bermudas or bigger swimming shorts can be worn elsewhere all day, so could bring in sand, dust or other matter, disturbing the water quality. By banning them outright, we're not forced to stand there measuring what can be defined as swimming shorts. I accept that some men feel very ill at ease wearing small trunks, but others don't mind."

About 50 workers at Michelin's plant in Montceau-les-Mines in eastern France locked up four managers, including the director, on Tuesday night. The managers were released early Wednesday after regional officials offered to mediate, Michelin spokeswoman Fabienne de Brebisson said.

As a side note, the French agents were reportedly calling themselves journalists as a cover identity, and were staying in the Funduq Sahafi al-'Aalmee, or the International Journalist Hotel. It's reassuring to see that intelligence agencies are still letting their agents pose as journalists, thus affirming the paranoid accusations of Third World governments everywhere.
