I'm bookmarking this, not so much because I'm a fan of the Grauniad and that it's iPad app looks cool...
...it's more the look of the first video. I'm thinking about videos of our Netskills events that include talking heads, footage of activity, presentation slides etc, all in a neat geometric shape.
Is this an example of digital storytelling?
Probably not. It feels more like a written report that has been screencast. I don't think I'm the intended audience (it feels like a piece for assessment) but it's a good case study in the art of telling small stories to make big points.
This video doesn't set out to do that. At over 14 minutes long it's designed to be comprehensive, not indicative.

Very cool POV video. Mostly shot on a head-mounted camera. Liked it as it manages to be visually arresting without using whizzy effects (as far as I can tell)

Nice bit of digital storytelling describing the effect of industrial development on a small rural community in Wyoming by a research assistant at Stanford.
If telling stories is all about describing change, then this is a great example.

This risks fuelling the perception that Twitter is a vanity channel for slebs but I'm thinking of using it in tomorrow's social networking session. , asking attendees to imagining themselves in the shot, replacing words like "fan" with "community" etc.

Not the Fliggo replacement I was thing it might be but interesting nonetheless. Host videos taken on your iphone or desktop and share via email and/or facebook. The free version keeps them for 30 days otherwise it's $5 a month for the backedup version.
Good for getting quick feedback on videos that you don't need to keep available long term.

Ewan McIntosh shares a YouTube video explaining the differences between Gt Britaun, UK, the nations comprising it, dependencies etc.
The point he is making is more about the medium, thinking about how we can encourage children to demonstrate their understanding through means that are as creative and social as this.

This is a fantastic set of video guides and tutorials on capturing and editing great movies. There's stuff on using cameras, filming technique, editing and using DSLRs. It covers all ability levels from beginner to advanced.
...and these are great exmaples of creating engaging, personality-led education.
