A timeline of events from big bang to present day, showing relative timescales and with embedded media. Nice, but the interface needs refining.
Quite a poignant blog post about the difficulty of discussing death and the importance of people's stories.
It's also has a really interesting back and forth narrative structure that balances emotional experiences and intellectual opinion.

a story is simply information wrapped in affective metadata
Cognitive Neuroscientist Michael Gazzaniga talks about a left brain hemisphere function he labels "the Interpreter" that organises memory into coherent, meaningful narratives.

Article looking at the underlying stories in web experiences. There's probably a simpler way of looking at this issue than this but it's still pretty interesting.
There's a bit of a link to something else about non-linear narrative I bookmarked a while ago - http://prezi.com/kfkrplxfy-tn/non-linear-storytelling/

This caught my eye in relation to using stories to engage an audience and also as I'm thinking about telling stories through data.

From John Hagel, a thoughtful look at narrative as a "pull" mechanism - a way of engaging and motivating people. The distinction between story and narrative here is not one I'd drawn previously.
For interest, have a look down the comments for Donald Clark's contribution. Although his insistence that there are more interesting forms of non-narrative learning I can't agree with his conclusion that "storytelling sucks". Especially with his sports example, yes it's a participative and unpredictable but sport is surrounded by narrative, either social (e.g. recounting a disasterous season in the premiere league for your team) or individual (e.g. developing skill over time to become a better sportsperson).

Given that Wikileaks has announced that Saudi Arabia may have overstated its oil reserves by 40%, we might want to look at the outcomes of this social experiment!
Fascinating bit of group storytelling and social participation to imagine a world as it enters an oil crisis.

An example of digital storytelling using a range of social media. Storify, still in beta and requiring an invite (which I don't have yet, boo!), allows a user to aggregate different items of social media to create a narrative experience on a topic.

Example of storytelling to create an emotional response about a real world issue. Somehow, a powerpoint or something more straightforward wouldn't have been as memorable.
