This sums it up nicely:
"As educators, we know that we need to help young people understand how their digital stories might be interpreted and appropriated, and support them to maintain their privacy. But can we also find ways to help them tell their stories in ways that are not just about presenting idealized versions of themselves to a corporate world, but allow them to critique these narratives and gain agency over their own stories?"

Like many people, I've got different identities on different networks; Twitter for work, Facebook for friends and family, LinkedIn for former colleagues. In some ways having these on separate systems is useful as their functionality suits who I'm connecting with but it's also a pain having to manage all these accounts.

Thinking I might have a closer look at Orkut. They seem to have a a more nuanced view of online identity than Facebook.

I was interested in this conference paper mainly for the learner comments at the end of the piece. For me it rasied questions of self-esteem and a sense of identity as a motivator for action and change.
