Like many people, I've got different identities on different networks; Twitter for work, Facebook for friends and family, LinkedIn for former colleagues. In some ways having these on separate systems is useful as their functionality suits who I'm connecting with but it's also a pain having to manage all these accounts.
Thinking I might have a closer look at Orkut. They seem to have a a more nuanced view of online identity than Facebook.

Lindsay works at the Uni of the Arts in London and has done a series of 4 posts on her responses to a keynote by Wenger last month, of which this is the first.
It was about how technology can help facilitate communities of practice and questions if identity and learning.

I was interested in this conference paper mainly for the learner comments at the end of the piece. For me it rasied questions of self-esteem and a sense of identity as a motivator for action and change.
