A timeline of events from big bang to present day, showing relative timescales and with embedded media. Nice, but the interface needs refining.
Simplest form of augmented reality I've seen; people holding up a photograph in the location it was previously taken, overlaying small snippets of personal history onto the present.

Bristol Council have set up "Know Your Place", a digital mapping service that allows users to explore historic Bristol. There's an option for people to contribute to the information layer as well.

The range of cities on display is limited but interesting. New York's a good one to start with.
I came across a few bugs where maps didn't appear or refused to be hidden but otherwise this is fascinating.

Great for showing the scale of objects or locations in different contexts.
Last week I was debating my wife about how deep the Marianas Trench was (really!). Now I know that if measured out horizontally it would stretch from Gosforth to Birtley. I would have thought it was further but then I started thinking how long it would take to walk that and trying to imagine the weight of water at the bottom of the trench.
Loads of applications for classroom/project work and for infographics.
