LibraryThing | EdVentures' Catalog

  • I started exploring LibraryThing after seeing a TEDtalks post regarding their shared book list. (I would link to it but the link is dead - not sure what happened there.) Figured I would start archiving my own library and in the process learned a lot about how I've grown over time. Reviewing my library as I was entering it into LibraryThing was an insightful exercise.

(Amazon.com) Technology Planning: Preparing and Updating a Library Technology Plan, by Joseph R. Matthews

  • A 2004 title of 160 pages focusing on developing a library tech plan. Although the title cost of $48 seems a bit steep. I did find excerpts of it on Google Book Search though.

ALA - Using technology in teaching and learning

  • A great article on internet-based teaching and
learning resources by Bryan Alexander, Research Director for the National
Institute for Technology and Liberal Education
    .  It touches upon practical
uses of blogs, wikis, podcasts and virtual worlds in addition to social
imaging. One topic that I think would be of particular interest to librarians
is that of social bookmarking – using online tools to create and share dynamic
lists of readings or resources that might be specific to their area of
    specialization.

BlogBridge » Feed Library

  • From BlogBridge, Feed Library is a way to catalog and categorize and present RSS feeds in a way which should increase readership through findability.

The open source version of this product is incredibly powerful for educational institutions which would like to: 1. increase awareness of RSS among their less-technologically savvy campus population, 2. increase their PR presence and 3. increase the communication and collaboration environment on their campus.
