A critical examination of Blackboard's e-learning environment: Stephanie J. Coopman
Blackboard’s e–learning system dominates the online learning software market. In this essay I critically examine the structure of Blackboard’s two online learning delivery systems, Blackboard 8.0 and Blackboard CE6. I identify ways in which the platforms both constrain and facilitate instructor–student and student–student interaction. I addition, I delineate features that sustain and challenge traditional power relationships in the classroom. I conclude with implications for online pedagogy and practical applications for instructors and students.
Designing Learning Spaces for Instruction, not Control : June 2009 : THE Journal
For instruction to move front and center of the process, teachers should walk into (physically and virtually) any learning space as a collaborator in that environment, aware that learning must take place, and thinking about connection and networking rather than lecture and silence. Additionally, if instruction were really to become front and center of learning space design, students would be as responsible as the instructor or the school janitor for how the room is set up based on the work that is to take place

Effectiveness Of Traditional And Blended Learning Environments
Strickland compared the course delivery methods in two respiratory therapy courses taught by the same teacher. One group of students completed the course in a traditional environment, while the other group completed the course in a blended environment. The method of course delivery, the final examination grade and the course grade were recorded for each student. Strickland studied the students’ satisfaction with the course through the information provided by each student on a standardized student evaluation of the course.

This is what we need to change. Quality comes first and should be the driving factor for creating online courses, not just revenue. As competition in this area increases, quality will be the thing that sets one institution apart from another.
