'Trusted Storage' Spec Will Encrypt Hard Drives

The Trusted Computing Group has laid out a preliminary framework for "trusted storage," a hard drive that would use encryption as a means of protecting data.
The TCG released the Trusted Software Stack version 1.2 on Monday, with features that include direct anonymous attestation, among others. But it is the trusted hard drive specification, due in preliminary form at the end of March, which should interest consumers and IT managers alike.

Richard Matthew Stallman (On the picture below) is the creator of the Free Software movement, the founder of the GNU project and the Free Software Foundation. He has written several programs used in almost all GNU/Linux distributions, such as the GNU C Compiler, the GNU Emacs editor and the GNU Debugger, amongst others. He wrote the GNU GPL, and is also currently co-authoring version 3 of the GPL. He also gave POSIX it's name, the term used to mean most UNIX-like operating systems today. We asked him for his opinions on File Sharing, DRM and some other subjects.

It was an extraordinary confession. The fervid evangelist for citizen journalism, Dan Gillmor, acknowledged, in excruciating detail, that his attempt to put his preaching into practice -- by launching his widely anticipated Bayosphere site -- was an editorial and business failure.
