Flagfox :: Add-ons for Firefox
"Flagfox is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that shows a flag icon indicating the current website's server location. It uses relatively little resources, and works by accessing an IP address location database contained within the extension rather than relying on top-level-domain roots like ".com" or ".uk". Clicking the icon loads Geotool, which provides a map of the location as well as more detailed information such as the ISP, city, and local time. The context menu also provides quick access to information about the country of origin, as well as the ability to lookup the domain's registrant via Whois.
Uses of Flagfox range from simply educating users about the global nature of the Internet to:
* SEO and web development research
* Indicating the native languages and legal jurisdictions for webservers
* Warning when sites that are not in the country the say they are
* Quickly viewing/copying server IP addresses for diagnostic and other uses
Flagfox is fairly customizable, allowing users to choose between two icon sets with positioning options anywhere in the address or status bar. Advanced users may create their own custom lookup to perform specialized searches for the current server."

ShowIP :: Add-ons for Firefox
Show the IP address(es) of the current page in the status bar. It also allows querying custom services by IP (right mouse button) and hostname (left mouse button), like whois, netcraft. Additionally you can copy the IP address to the clipboard. This extension was formerly known as ipv6ident.
If only the domain name is shown and not the IP address, check the setting of the network.proxy.socks_remote_dns preference. It has to be turned off for proper operation. Alternatively you can try
the version available at http://firefox-showip.googlecode.com/files/showip_0.8.17pre2.xpi where a switch in the preferences dialog has been added to force ShowIP to do DNS look-ups.

Flash Video Resources Downloader :: Add-ons for Firefox
Download videos from Youtube, Google Video, Dailymotion & all the rest of the popular (and many less known) online flash video sites of all kinds.
Like the VideoDownloader extension, but up to date on changing sites & supporting new sites constantly. Sick of using the VideoDownloader extension that is outdated, doesn't work with half the sites it used to & doesn't work with ANY of the new sites? This extension keeps up to date on video sites when they make updates to stop from being downloaded and is constantly adding new sites. It just adds a small icon to the status bar of your Firefox browser. Just click it to download the video you are watching!

General intelligence factor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The general intelligence factor (abbreviated g) is a controversial construct used in the field of psychology (see also psychometrics) to quantify what is common to the scores of all intelligence tests."
Charles Spearman developed a model where all variation in intelligence test scores can be explained by two factors. The first is the factor specific to an individual mental task: the individual abilities that would make a person more skilled at one cognitive task than another. The second is g, a general factor that governs performance on all cognitive tasks.
There is much evidence that g is closely related to measures of the capacity of working memory.
... factor analysis found a clear single higher order factor, g. In their report, published in the journal Intelligence, the study authors conclude:
In combination with our earlier findings regarding the consistency of general intelligence factors across test batteries, our results point unequivocally to the existence of a general intelligence factor contributing substantively to all aspects of intelligence.
Optimism bias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
is the demonstrated systematic tendency for people to be over-optimistic about the outcome of planned actions. This includes over-estimating the likelihood of positive events and under-estimating the likelihood of negative events. It is one of several kinds of positive illusion to which people are generally susceptible.
Example: Increased risk taking and insufficient preventive care
Optimistic overconfidence bias can induce people to underinvest in primary and preventive care and other risk-reducing behaviors, such as abstinence from smoking.[5]
Example: Credit card borrowing and penalty rates and fees
Overconfidence causes many people to grossly underestimate their odds of making a payment late. Statistically, many people are quite likely to make at least one payment late due to the normal range of difficulties and delays in day-to-day life. Overconfidence bias causes these people to grossly underestimate the odds of this happening and therefore to accept grossly punitive fees and rates (e.g., an interest rate of nearly 30%) as a result of otherwise minor transgressions such as a late payment. Companies have exploited this bias by increasing interest rates to punitive rates for any late payment, even if it is to another creditor. Overconfidence bias makes these terms more acceptable to borrowers than if they were accurately calibrated.
Overconfidence bias also causes many people to substantially underestimate the probability of having serious financial or liquidity problems, such as from a sudden job loss or severe illness. This can cause them to take on excessive debt under the expectation that they will do better than average in the future and be readily able to pay it off.
Overconfidence, locus of control, and depression
Overconfidence bias may cause many people to overestimate their degree of control and their odds of success. This may be protective against depression - since Seligman and Maier's model of depression includes a sense of learned helplessness and loss of predictability and control. Depre

Hofstadter’s Law and Realistic Planning | Psych Central
You’ve probably heard of Murphy’s Law—”if anything can go wrong, it will.” But Murphy has a kindred spirit in author Douglas Hofstadter.
Hofstadter’s Law, if you’ve never heard it, states: “It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s Law.”
Computer programmers say Hofstadter’s Law rings true to their work on complex projects that take years to complete.
We’ve all experienced how a project expands to fit the time available. But why do we tend to underestimate the length of any given task? By the evening, the goals on our morning’s to-do list seem laughable.
This may be because we tend to set too many goals: In addition to wanting to get a project done, we also want to keep up with our favorite TV program, cook nice meals and stay in touch with friends. But to successfully reach any goal, we need a reason to place it higher than our other goals and desires. Then we can allocate our resources more efficiently.
It sounds easy enough, but perfectionists, procrastinators and those under tight deadline pressure all have unique problems giving themselves enough time.
Problems often arise because of unforeseen delays such as illness. Vacations may have been planned and nonrefundable tickets bought long before a project—with a due date in the middle of the vacation, of course—even came into being. A team member may unexpectedly accept a new job with another company before the project can be completed.
One approach is to avoid planning altogether, and just change course as needed based on real-time feedback. Some people advise, “take your best guess as to when you’ll be done, then double it.”Perhaps you can remember how long similar tasks have taken previously. If nothing you have done before is comparable, ask an experienced person how long similar projects have taken them. It may not be the response you’re hoping for, but it will be accurate.
Psychologists working in the area of human planning decisions have found that our plans are typically based on best-case scenarios an

Self-regulation theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Outside of health management, self-regulation theory is used to explain the cognitive bias known as illusion of control. To the extent that people are driven by internal goals concerned with the exercise of control over their environment, they will seek to reassert control in conditions of chaos, uncertainty or stress. Failing genuine control, one coping strategy will be to fall back on defensive attributions of control—leading to illusions of control

Strategic planning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vision: Defines the desired or intended future state of an organization or enterprise in terms of its fundamental objective and/or strategic direction. Vision is a long term view, sometimes describing a view of how the organization would like the world in which it operates to be. For example a charity working with the poor might have a vision statement which read "A world without poverty"
Mission: Defines the fundamental purpose of an organization or an enterprise, basically describing why it exists and what it does to achieve its Vision. A corporate Mission can last for many years, or for the life of the organization. It is not an objective with a timeline, but rather the overall goal that is accomplished over the years as objectives are achieved that are aligned with the corporate mission.
Values: Beliefs that are shared among the stakeholders of an organization. Values drive an organization's culture and priorities

Who am I?: the 16 basic desires that ... - Google Books
In 1998, Ohio State University psychology professor Reiss developed the "Reissprofile," which plotted 16 basic desires that he claims motivate everyone's choices, actions and attitudes. Eschewing Erickson's stages of life and Maslow's pyramid of needs, Reiss surveyed over 6,000 people to identify the 16 factors that provide a more personalized "desires profile." Scoring high, low or average for ...
More each of the desires creates a unique description of an individual's sometimes hidden motivations. Reiss neglects to mention whether he made any comparisons between siblings or twins, but asserts that these desire levels are "genetically coded" and cannot be changed. If a strong desire leads one into trouble, he contends, understanding the motivating desire can direct the behavior into socially acceptable avenues (for instance, as when the street fighter turns professional boxer). It is easy for readers to identify and understand the desires for power, independence and curiosity. But a few of Reiss's categories are questionable, as when he fails to separate idealistic thinking from activist behavior. When discussing "romance," he implies that persons for whom sex is a high priority are also great lovers of art, music and beauty. While not the be-all and end-all of psychological study that Reiss claims it to be, this survey could be another useful tool in helping readers to understand themselves and to remedy what he calls "self-hugging" (believing that one's particular set of priorities is--or should be--everybody's) and "not getting it" (an impasse of understanding between people with different desire profiles). PsyDok - Das Setzen und Verwirklichen von Zielen
Kurzfassung in Deutsch
B. planende Bewußtseinslage,Vorsatzbildung, Handlungskontrollstrategien, Anstrengungssteigerung, Diskrepanzreduktion) andererseits identifiziert. Abschließend werden zielpsychologische Phänomene diskutiert, die bislang in der Psychologie des Zielstrebens weitgehend unberücksichtigt geblieben sind (z. B. Zielkonflikte, das Aufgeben von unpassenden Zielen).
Kurzfassung in Englisch
The historical roots of the goal concept are found in behaviorism, mentalism, and German will psychology. It is suggested that the psychology of goal pursuit has recently experienced a renaissance. Modern goal psychology focuses on phenomena of goal setting and goal attainment. With respect to goal setting, content approaches as well as self-regulatory approaches are differentiated.
