Block Posters - Create large wall posters from any image for free!

Although not designed specifically for "educational use," one look at this free service and it's clear that anyone with a classroom is going to get _tons_ of use out of this one.

The free Block Posters service lets you convert pretty much any digital image (any resolution, up to 1MB in size) to a large-scale wall-sized "poster" of sorts.

How it works: After uploading your digital image, you specify how many sheets wide you'd like your final image to be. Block Posters then enlarges and converts the image to a PDF document. Download the PDF and print out your enlarged image onto multiple sheets, which you then tile and reassemble for display on your wall.

Note that although Block Posters states that it can handle any image of any resolution, know going in that the smaller your image/resolution, the more pixellated or "blocky"-looking your enlarged image will be. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing — the final image may still be perfectly acceptable, especially when you consideer that images that large are meant to be viewed from a distance anyway, making any kind of pixellation pretty much just academic and of no practical concern.

eyePlorer.com

So, my favorite tool this week is eyePlorer. According to their website, eyePlorer is “the graphical knowledge engine.” This tool is a great place for research. Once you enter your topic of interest, eyePlorer scans the web to find anything related to your topic. It combines all the information into one diagram, separated by category.

In each category, you’ll see little dots, or as they call to call them, “eyespots.” The eyespots represent concepts about your topic, or information -- the bigger ones represent “common” facts, and little ones might be lesser known. How is it related to your topic? Just click it! It will show you the fact source. And guess what? You don’t even have to write this information down! There is a notebook feature with eyePlorer and all you have to do is drag the fact to the notebook and it’s stored! Take a look at my video using eyePlorer to search Greece.
