Teaching Appz is a great new website to help teachers to find apps for iPads, iPods and other mobile devices (including Android, Playbook and web) that can be used in the classroom. All apps are organised into subject areas, making them easy for teachers to browse through and each app has background information, as well as ideas for using them with children.

We’ve written about Japanese startups Cacoo a few times before. You may recall that they operate a collaborative web service that can be used to create diagrams, charts, and mind maps with others. Just now I received a mail from them saying that Cacoo now can work in Google Hangouts.

Fuel the Brain is a great little site which has numerous games, interactives and printables to help enhance and practice basic skills in Maths, Science and Language Arts. Games are grouped by topic area to make it easier to find ones to suit your lesson objective. You can also search by grade. From the look of it, the site is suitable for years 1-3.

Interactive whiteboards are a great way for teachers to engage classrooms in learning. While many teachers are spending hours a day creating their own activities for their interactive whiteboards, there are tons of free sources to help teachers learn about and use IWBs with students.

Here’s a great little comic book resource for science that I’d blogged about ages ago and then completely forgotten about. Selenia is a school girl from another planet. Her adventures have been turned into a comic book, and can be used to teach about Science Investigations and Materials.

A few weeks ago I asked for educational bloggers to share some of their posts as part of a Blog Carnival. The idea would be that they would write about aspects of technology in education,  and I would then collate into a single post that points to them all. Hopefully you the reader will discover some blogs you haven’t seen before.

Collaborative Whiteboard Apps for the Classroom
Interactive and collaborative - Whiteboards are a great way for teachers to explain concepts to their students. With the ability of some iPad apps to record, you ensure that students who did not develop understanding of the concept the first time have the opportunity to watch and listen again and again. Working in small groups or brainstorming as a class, collaborative whiteboards are a great way to share ideas. Work in the same room, on the same network or even from different parts of the country. No matter what you are working on these interactive whiteboards are a great way to document or record your thinking process.
