Educators are giving YouTube — long dismissed as a storehouse of whimsical, time-wasting and occasionally distasteful videos — another look. As Google, YouTube’s parent company, fine-tunes a portal that lets schools limit students’ access to selected content, the video-sharing Web site is gaining popularity as a trove of free educational materials.
The world’s single largest online collection of historical maps launched earlier this week at Old Maps Online. By the end of the year, the site aims to have 60,000 maps available for public access.
ClassConnect is a relatively new website for finding and sharing lesson resources. It supports multiple file types, including documents, website URLs, and videos. Users can either upload their own files or embed files from Google Docs or video sharing sites such as YouTube. Each account comes with 512 MB of storage, which includes files that you’ve linked to from other users.
