It's news that shouldn't surprise anyone that read the fine print on the registration for Stanford's Artificial Intelligence class offered last fall: Professor Stanford Thrun has announced he is resigning from the university to launch an online learning startup.
"Stanford University Artificial Intelligence is being offered as an open online course. I’ve been involved in numerous massive open online courses (MOOCs) – they’ve been wonderful personal learning experiences. MOOCs are great opportunities to connect with colleagues from around the world and develop a broad understanding of topics from diverse perspectives. Our goal, since CCK08, has been to do for teaching and learning what MIT did for content."
As part of a dramatic effort to expand its IT offerings to a global audience, Stanford University will be offering three popular 101-level courses free online as part of a global virtual classroom.
The 10 current courses are divided into three categories: Introduction to Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Linear Systems and Optimization.
