That is the clichéd argument frequently used to justify banning electronic communications, websites, and other forms of technology in schools. The common belief is that these prohibitions will prevent, among other things, the sexual assault of minors or suicides related to cyberbullying.

Most students are familiar with and active users of mobile technology. While it does facilitate sharing and knowledge exchange, it can be a dangerous tool if improperly used. By this I mean students using their smartphones (or dumbphones, for that matter) to share things they would never normally share. From inappropriate comments to sexting, it’s a dangerous minefield.
Google has just published a terrific new guide to staying safe online. Since we all likely use at least a few of their products, it’s a guide worth checking out.
Today, kids have grown up digital. They have had access to a world of new possibilities; some good, some not so good. We believe it is the responsibility of parents, teachers and other adult mentors to join kids on the digital playground and to teach them to be happy and healthy cyber-citizens. With the advent of cyber-bullying and all of its far reaching consequences, we can no longer afford to wait idly by while emotional damage is done.
Advice for staying more secure on the web and an overview of some of the security tools that Google offers.
