This month, Bill Whelan told the P.E.I. Ministry of Education it was time to take a long, hard look at PD, or “professional development,” days. A medical physicist at the University of P.E.I., Prof. Whelan was co-chair of a one-year commission tasked with modernizing the province’s school system.
With the school year soon coming to a close, many schools and districts are planning summer professional development and technology training sessions. That is why, over the coming weeks, we will be offering a series of webinars that will give administrators the tools they need to hold inservices on Edmodo.

In Glasgow yesterday (you might have heard that there’s a wee shindig there this week) there was a lot of talk about teacher professional development.
Nobody would accuse Scott of being an ineffective teacher. He has a clean-shaven head and well-pressed dress shirt and tie. His calm demeanor and busy students make it seem like he effortlessly expands minds on a daily basis. It was my great pleasure to meet this particular teacher and his particularly high-functioning classroom on a visit to Brooklyn International High School in October of 2010.
