Google Docs is such an incredible tool for college students, offering collaboration, portability, ease of use, and widespread acceptance. But there are so many options, both hidden and obvious, that there’s a good chance you’re not using Google Docs to its fullest capability.

The GoogleDocs Form is an efficient way for teachers to collect small pieces of information because it automatically displays the information in a spreadsheet. Teachers can add formulas to those spreadsheets to create  multiple-choice quizzes that grade themselves. Since a form can be linked or embedded into a website, wiki or blog, students do not need email accounts to take a quiz. The form works well on any portable computing device or full-blown computer which makes it perfect for use as an Exit Ticket at the end of a lesson. One simple 3-5 question Exit Ticket Quiz has at least three great uses.

Digital kits are nothing more than collections of content -- still images, video clips, audio clips, passages of text -- connected to the topic being studied that teachers assemble for their kids before a project even begins.  Then, students use the content in digital kits to assemble their final products.

One of the common concerns we hear from K-12 users of Google Docs is the lack of clip art. This is understandable as most people are used to the large amount of clip art available in Microsoft Office programs.

Well, that may be changing a little bit now. Today I was working in Google Documents (updating a Chrome help guide), when I noticed a new option for inserting something called "Stock photos". Basically if you go to insert an image as usual, you now have five options:

SMS or cell phone text messaging alerts can be extremely handy. Research shows most people read text message alerts almost immediately, and when students have an unlimited text messaging plan no additional costs are incurred by them to receive SMS updates.

As I've been helping students get going with their gmail accounts and blogs over the past couple of weeks I've been joking about the "old school" e-mail systems that some of you still use.

This post presents Google Docs use in the Classroom. Google Docs is excellent collaboration tool for teachers, school development and classroom use. Basicly its about collaborative planning and writing, sharing information, working simultaneously with other students or teachers, and in my opinion it should be used on every school.

Last month, I taught a course on professional writing. (I know, right? I’m having a very decadent summer, thank you very much.)

The students’ final assignment was to collaborate in small groups on a business proposal in which they were to identify, analyze, and then propose a solution for a problem of their own choosing. Ideally a local–upstate South Carolina–and current problem.
