Anyone who has visited a library in the past few years will not be surprised to learn that demand for library services has increased significantly. With the growing need for access to digital and online information, including e-government services, continuing education resources and employment opportunities, libraries are essential in communities, large and small, throughout the country.
As children are surrounded by technology more than ever, the way computers are taught will need to change. This was reflected in a recent government announcement by Michael Gove around reforming and updating the computer science curriculum.
Are you teaching Advanced Placement Computer Science? Are you looking for supplemental exercises that may help you students with the concepts? If so this announcement may be of interest to you. Pex for Fun has been around for a while offering coding duels in C#, F# and Visual Basic. Recently though it was decided to invest some time, money and effort to adapt some exercises specifically to help learn APCS concepts. Most students find the differences between Java and C# pretty minor at this level so most APCS students will find this doable even if they have only been taught Java previously.

To help every student realіze theіr full potential, educators across the sector all seek to better-engage their students. To assist with that goal, we must empower every teacher with the tools and resources to understand and engage every student at their own pace, in the right place, and in a way that allows them to achieve their greatest potential. I many Kindergartens children are actively involved in designing and creating things that matter to them. They learn some specifics from this, but Resnick says what they learn that is most important is the creative process. Rather than simply imagining, they create, iterating with their creations and learning as they go.

I’m a huge fan of the FIRST organization and their robotics programs at various education levels. So I thought it might be a good idea to pass along this announcement. Most of us know that STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are cool, fun and exciting. A lot of students don’t know this. The hope is that this special will help show kids, and adults, that what we know is actually real.
Michael Scherotter who works for Microsoft decided to run a computer programming day camp in his home for his 9 year old son and 9 of his friends. Taking on teaching programming to 10-year olds may not be for everyone but from the sound of Michael’s blog posts it sure sounds not only possible but quite a bit of fun.
