One of the most common questions we get is, “But where do we find the time to use all this new technology?” To answer that question, we developed this infographic – A Day in the Life of a Connected Educator to show that using social media in your classroom and in your life can be integrated, easy, and fun.
ClassConnect is a relatively new website for finding and sharing lesson resources. It supports multiple file types, including documents, website URLs, and videos. Users can either upload their own files or embed files from Google Docs or video sharing sites such as YouTube. Each account comes with 512 MB of storage, which includes files that you’ve linked to from other users.
You may have heard colleagues talk about their PLNs—their personal learning networks—or you may have one of your own. But just what is a personal learning network, and why is it so helpful for educators?
Reading RSS feeds is a great way to keep up with what's happening. But there's another technology that provides a different, more spontaneous window into the minds of other people. It's called Twitter and it's one of the fastest growing Web 2.0 technologies.
If you dont have a PLN, you don't know what you are missing
Recently I had the most thrilling experience! I met, in person, some members of my Personal Learning Network (PLN)!
All educators (and learners) can benefit from extending their own personal learning network online – beyond the walls of their schools, the boundaries of their districts, and the limits of their experience.
If you are a professional, you should have a PLN. Your PLN (personal or professional learning network) is the community of people you interact with and learn from on a regular basis.
I often begin my workshop on personal learning networks (PLN) for educators by asking these questions: Who is in your learning network? Who do you learn from on a regular basis? Who do you turn to for your own professional development?
This site was created to serve as a collaborative, objective resource for educators and administrators who are committed to enhancing student achievement. We invite you to share your knowledge, ask questions, and get expert insight into the issues teachers face each day in the classroom.

Happy New Year everyone and good luck with those New Year’s resolutions. I have a dozen resolutions myself, but I don’t want to change too much! If I could get every educator to commit to one resolution, it would be to create a “Personalized Professional Development Plan.”
This week, I begin a cohort based in Alberta, Canada, working with educational leaders that are both school and division based. A question that I have received from many educators/administrators is what could I possibly share on Twitter. Although this is not the “definitive” guideline below, I would love to share my thoughts on what you should tweet:
If a person became a technology director before about 1995, he/she probably came up through the teaching ranks. As a classroom teacher or librarian, if these folks showed an aptitude for, or even an interest in, educational technology, there was a path to administering it. After about 1995 computers, district-wide educational management applications and networks became sufficiently complex and important to the day-to-day operation of schools that technology directors were hired from business or computer science programs with little or no experience as teachers.
The common thread? Having a PLN supports teachers to take the plunge and start using educational technology in the classroom.
