Copyright extension is the enemy of innovation
-
Europe’s recorded music was about to experience a wave of innovation. For
the first time, a major set of culturally important artefacts was to enter
the public domain: the sound recordings of the 1950s and 1960s. Apparently
not so. If the European Commission has its way, re-releases and reworkings
of recorded sounds will remain at the mercy of right owners for another 45
years -
The Commission’s explanatory memorandum states: “There was no need for
external expertise.” Yet, independent external expertise exists.
Unanimously, the European centres for intellectual property research have
opposed the proposal. The empirical evidence has been summarised succinctly
in at least three studies -
The simple truth is that copyright extension benefits most those who already
hold rights. It benefits incumbent holders of major back-catalogues, be they
record companies, ageing rock stars or, increasingly, artists’ estates. It
does nothing for innovation and creativity. The proposed Term Extension
Directive undermines the credibility of the copyright system. It will
further alienate a younger generation that, justifiably, fails to see a
principled basis.

The lead role of the guitar in heavy metal often collides with the traditional "frontman" or bandleader role of the vocalist, creating a musical tension as the two "contend for dominance" in a spirit of "affectionate rivalry."[5] Heavy metal "demands the subordination of the voice" to the overall sound of the band.

For the first test, you might want to let MP3Gain try to automagically adjust the gain based on its analysis of the songs' volume. To do this, run
mp3gain -a -k *mp3on the album, ormp3gain -r -k *mp3for a single song. Now, pop the songs into your MP3 player again and give 'em a listen. If they sound good, then try a couple more. If you're happy with MP3Gain's adjustments, you could run it against your entire music collection using something like this:
find . -name *mp3 -exec mp3gain -a -k {} \;Depending on the size of your music collection, this may take some time.
-
If you're not happy with the changes made by MP3Gain, just run
mp3gain -u file.mp3. That should reverse the change

Adieu to the true audiophile?
-
the equipment that has traditionally defined the audiophile is antithetical to the way we experience music today. Speakers are clunky and immobile, and expensive shelf systems don't play easily swappable digital files. Instead, stereo shopping nowadays often means picking up an iPod and a speaker dock. The combination is cheaper, mobile, convenient,

The iPod either tapped into our desire to listen to music on the go--and bring the entirety of our music library with us--or told us that's what we should want.
