Squid Handbuch
Proxies sind Programme, die einem Webserver vorgeschaltet werden und damit zwischen ihm und den anfragenden Webbrowsern stehen. Meist dienen sie als Zwischenspeicher von Webseiten ("Cache") und verringern den Netzverkehr. Häufig setzen Administratoren Proxies auch ein, um die Servernutzung zu protokollieren, Zugriffe auf Webseiten einzuschränken oder andere Sicherheitstechniken einzubauen.
Dieses Handbuch gibt im ersten Teil eine allgemeine Einführung in die Logik und Technik des zugrunde liegenden HTTP-Protokolls und der Funktion von Proxyservern im Allgemeinen. Im zweiten Teil werden die nötigen Kenntnisse zur Installation und Administration eine Squid Proxyservers vermittelt. Der dritte Teil (Anhang) dient als Nachschlagewerk, z.B. zu Status- und Fehlercodes, Protokolltypen und RFCs.
Der Leser erhält hier ein grundsätzliches technisches Verständnis für die Kommunikation über das HTTP-Protokoll sowie zur Funktion von Proxyservern. Er kann anhand des Buches selbst einen einzelnen Squid Proxyserver oder einen Proxyverbund installieren, Konfigurieren und für das eigene Netz optimieren. Weitere Themen aus dem Proxyumfeld, wie Datenschutz und Datensicherheit, Webfilter und Statistik werden kurz angesprochen.
