JOKe's Blog: RichFaces server-side paging with DataTable.

"Most of the component toolkits have build in support for server-side paging this days but in rest of the cases you need to customize a little the data model or data provider or component itself to have data paging. The reason why I write this post is because when I first saw richfaces everythink was perfect except the server-side paging. They have paging but it was client side based on JavaScript witch just doesn't work in many cases and I loose a lot of time to understand all models, which model I must extend and how to do it to create a data model with server side paging. At the current version of RichFaces on the demo page information about how to do server-side paging at least exist http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/richfaces/dataTable.jsf?tab=dataModel&cid=3608154 but like always the JBoss/RedHat/Exadel doesn’t provide us a fast full easy working example and we must loose a lot of time to search for classes in the demo."

memcached and Grails, Part 1: Installing and using memcached

  • In this first half of a two-part article focusing on memcached and Grails, author James Goodwill introduces you to the open source caching solution memcached. Topics covered in this article include installation, configuration, memcached client commands, and evaluating the effectiveness of your cache. Unlike articles about using memcached with a language-specific client, this one focuses on direct interaction with the memcached server. The goal is to give you the tools you need to monitor your instance of memcached as well as to prepare you for the second half of the article, in which you will integrate memcached into a Grails application.

Git changes the game of distributed Web development

  • Version control systems are a core component of most development projects,
regardless of whether you're developing an application, a Web site, or an operating
system. Most projects involve multiple developers, often working at widely separated
physical locations. Distributed version control systems are nothing new, but the Git version
control system provides unique support for collaboration and interaction among developers.

Making Sense of Revision-control Systems - ACM Queue

  • Whether distributed or centralized, all revision-control systems come with complicated sets of tradeoffs. How do you find the best match between tool and team?

Build faster Web applications with caching

  • Web developers who use Java™ technologies can quickly improve their applications' performance by using a cache utility. Java Caching System (JCS), a powerful distributed caching system for Java applications, is a highly configurable tool with a simple API. This article gives you an overview of JCS and shows how you can use it to speed up your Web applications.

Faster Java coding in Eclipse Galileo

  • Learn how to use the new toString()
code-generation ability in Eclipse Galileo along with
    hashCode(), equals(),
and setter/getter generation to cut down on the amount of work that goes into
building the foundation of a Java™ class.

Java development 2.0: Hello Google App Engine

  • Open source solutions and borrowed infrastructures are changing the character of Java™ development, letting you deliver better software quickly and at a low cost. Andrew Glover, coining the term Java development 2.0 to encapsulate the cumulative force of these phenomena, launches a new series on some of the relevant tools and technologies. This first installment heralds the arrival of Java development 2.0 and explains how you can bring its concepts to fruition quickly with Google's App Engine for Java.

Git - Fast Version Control System

  • Git is a free & open source, distributed version control system
designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with
    speed and efficiency.

Every Git clone is a full-fledged repository with complete history
and full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access
or a central server. Branching and merging are fast and easy to do.

Git is used for version control of files, much like tools such as
    Mercurial,
    Bazaar,
    Subversion,
    CVS,
    Perforce,
    and Visual SourceSafe.

Google App Engine for Java: Part 2: Building the killer app

  • The whole point of a cloud platform like Google App Engine for
    Java™ is
in being able to imagine, build, and deploy professional-quality killer apps that
scale — without breaking the bank or driving yourself insane. In this second
part of his three-part introduction to Google App Engine for Java, Rick Hightower takes you beyond the ready-made examples of Part 1 with a step-by-step guide to writing and deploying a simple contact-management application using App Engine for Java.

Evolutionary architecture and emergent design: Emergent design through metrics

Some of the common questions relating to cyclomatic complexity are "How does my code compare to others?" and "What is a good number for a particular class?" The iPlasma project answers these questions (see Resources). iPlasma is a platform, created as a university project in Romania, for quality assessment of object-oriented design. It generates a pyramid, showing key metrics for your project along with comparisons to industry-standard ranges for those numbers.
