Librarians typically take the cart to a given campus for a shift of 1-2 hours during peak student foot traffic times, e.g., lunch or between classes. On a typical outing, the Mobile Library is loaded with everything from a laptop to water to flyers to buttons to other branding/marketing materials to craft supplies to free gift books, plus extra swag and edibles at special events.

Recognizing that a stationary librarian cannot reach a stationary patron, UNBC library began an innovative roaming reference pilot project in September, 2010. Books no longer needed at library being wheelbarrowed around New Brighton beach and given away by librarians.
Took new van with books on agricultural/pastoral/craft subjects plus new/high-use books, to the Warkworth A&P Show in Jan 2009. No wifi so manual checkout and patron sign-up. Weather was an issue for some locations. Bags were needed for people to carry books borrowed.
"I have been dabbling with two apps on my phone: Loopt and WhosHere. These programs allow you to create a profile and then see other people who are nearby and have the software installed on their phones too. I created a very librarian-centric profile and put it out there to see what would happen."
