Welcome to ARTS1091: Media, Society, Politics.
Media Society Politics encourages an active exploration of media as a political technology. The course encourages us to examine media as both the expression and modulation of a developing relation between bodies, and between body and world. This viewpoint provides for a close analysis of the way we govern that relationship at the personal level, through to the peri-personal, and societal and institutional. The way we perceive the world determines our potential for expression or action. That expression or action describes a continually emerging culture. Media thus becomes a fundamental ground for political intervention. In this course we look at how (rather than who or what) the development of media and communications technology affords new potential for expression and (inter)action - how media technologies afford a particular cultural dynamic. We will then look at how this cultural dynamic becomes a site of continual governmental intervention. Programs of governance act both on, and through, media forms and affordances. In this course a close reading analysis of the development, execution and implications of media policy provides a fruitful, concrete ground for exploring the constant and dynamic interaction between media and political cultures.

Welcome to the student-built wiki for HUMS3001: Censorship and Responsibility. During the semester students will help build the page which will then form the basis of the end-of-course exam. The course is broken into a theory section and a section for Case Studies, but the two will obviously leak into each other. You will see links to already existing pages on the lefthand side of the page under 'Navigation'. Have a look around and introduce yourself on the Author Bio page if you intend to contribute to the wiki. There are no rules as to when and how much you can contribute to a page.

A bit Google focused for me; but I liked it as an event; and then modded it for a primary school session.

This is a collaborative workspace for the development of instructional items for the use of the MMORPG, World of Warcraft, in a school setting. Please take a moment to explore the various sections of the site and if you would like to contribute, please email Lucas Gillispie at lucas AT edurealms.com.
The primary focus of this project is to develop a curriculum for an after school program or "club" for at-risk students at the middle and/or high school level. This program would use the game, World of Warcraft, as a focal point for exploring Writing/Literacy, Mathematics, Digital Citizenship, Online Safety, and would have numerous projects/lessons intended to develop 21st-Century skills.

OK, its a little more than 20 minutes, but its really good stuff. Just grab a coke and popcorn and enjoy. These videos should open in a new window:
