Twitter comes of age with fast reports from the ground in Mumbai | World news | The Guardian
From the moment the first shots were fired, the internet provided a kaleidoscopic view of events in Mumbai. Using blogs and file-sharing sites, those caught up in the mayhem rapidly provided accounts from the ground as well as links to the best news reports appearing on the web.
One rich source of information was Twitter, which provides text-message-length updates. Its Mumbai thread provided a stream of snippets, not all accurate, from observers on the ground, with details of casualties, sieges, gunfights, and even the suspected names of terrorists.

Abstract
This paper provides a review from the current academic and popular literature of current initiatives in providing alternative user interfaces for virtual worlds. Second Life as a current popular 3D online multiuser virtual environments (MUVEs) is looked at in particular. These initiatives are to address various accessibility issues for the visual, hearing and motion impaired rather than in the areas of intellectual or cognitive. These initiatives cover the use of variable sound for 3D simulation, hepatic devices working with other senses, use of speech to text, enriched multi-media environments and alternate client software.
CIPD - Web 2.0 and human resources
Few topics have excited so much interest for our profession in such a short time as Web 2.0.
There is currently a proliferation of articles and short conferences on the subject and a rising tide of interest. Yet a consideration of the discussion to date suggests that there is more heat than light. There is a deal of emphasis on illustrations, mainly from knowledge intensive, high-technology organisations, but little analysis.
CIPD - Helping people learn: overview and update
In April 2004 the CIPD embarked on a important new research project Helping people learn which considered how we can move from a strategy based on the delivery of training to one based on support for learning

A new report by Josh Bernoff of Forrester Research states that usage of social technologies increased markedly in 2008: three in four US online adults now use social tools to connect with each, up from 56% in 2007. According to the report, the largest growth came from ratings and reviews, "voting" on websites, and user-generated video. Blogging and tagging were also popular.

But East Lothian schools have instead decided to turn the tables – and developed an innovative educational project based on the popular computer game, Guitar Hero.
