Stellarium
This is a lovely new open source planetarium app, for Mac and Windows (and source for Linux). Once you realise there are 2 menus one on the lower left edge, and one on the left of the bottom edge, it is a dream to get started.

One thing I specifically didn't do was install Wine, or even mention it existed. Given their amazing ability to attract malware, I think it is just too dangerous.
Save YouTube Videos To Your Hard Drive - Wired How-To Wiki
Here are some techniques that can not only help you take a YouTube video on the road, but also perhaps get around the excessive CPU usage of Adobe's Flash video player on Linux (this problem causes heat, fan noise, jumpy video and CO2 emissions.)
-
Alternately you can just use an FLV capable media player like the excellent and free VLC (all platforms).
How do I configure the new Version of Xlite? - gradwell
This guide got version 3 of X-Lite (the former Eyebeam) working for me.

HFSExplorer
Unlike the MacDrive shareware, this app seems to be read-only.
-
HFSExplorer is a useful application for extracting files from an HFS+ volume (Mac OS Extended) located either on a physical disk, on a .dmg disk image, or in a raw file.
MacBook TripleBoot Instructions
Multiple boot a MacBook with GRUB and LVM, and with rEFIt instead of Boot Camp. Sounds very encouraging, as grub is not working for me right now. I am not sure how or why his Linux does not have an EXT2 /boot partition, as seemed to be default with Fedo

BackupPC Information
Uninspiring name - very interesting product.
-
backup a large number of machines onto a server's local disk or network storage. This is what BackupPC does. For some sites, this might be the complete backup solution. For other sites, additional permanent archives could be created by periodically backing up the server to tape.

be helpful when you're looking for interesting files in general. To start up the browser just have it open up the main HTML file you created previously with lazarus - it'll have a name like "unrm_output.frame.html" if the original data was called "unrm_output". If done correctly you'll see large map of your disk made up from letters, and a small HTML frame that shows what all the letters in the large map mean. You can use your browser's internal search function or simply browse through the map looking for things of interest.

The final three cases represent fragmented files where the clusters in between the fragments are also unallocated. There is not a test case in this test image of a fragmented file with allocated clusters in between the fragments. In hindsight, the test image should have included that scenario. For reference, none of the analysis tools were able to recover the final three files.
WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics
very slick free software Windows clone of KDirStat - to help you find out where all your disk space has gone (mostly GPL)
-
WinDirStat reads the whole directory tree once and then presents it in three useful views:
* The directory list, which resembles the tree view of the Windows Explorer but is sorted by file/subtree size,
* The treemap, which shows the whole contents of the directory tree straight away,
* The extension list, which serves as a legend and shows statistics about the file types.
Blue Security's Anti-Spam Community
-
Reshef is a startup veteran (if there is such a thing) and this is his third company. Founded in 2004, the company raised $3 million from Benchmark Capital in April, 2005 in its "seed round" and might well be able to raise more money in the future, if necessary.
Our immediate question was a simple one: "How will you make money?"
If he can prove that it works, Reshef expects that corporations will pay for the service. Meanwhile, the company plans to be in beta for a long time.

Early testing has been extremely successful. Some very large and well known spammers have agreed to comply with the DNIR and stop spamming members of Blue Security. But I won't kid you. Recently, a small minority of rebel spammers who are feeling the intense heat the growing community of BlueFroggers has created to comply have found a way to extrapolate Blue Security member addresses. With this list they have launched an all out campaign to try and discourage the growth of the BlueFrog community by sending threatening email and just plain bulk nonsense. This misguided course of action is certain to have the exact opposite effect that they hoped for and be very short lived. As a direct result Blue Security membership is growing exponentially
