Macintosh Linux

  • I finally managed to get all the hardware working on my MBP 15"

Used the x86-64 DVD to install (already had REFIT boot loader on my machine) and then...

  • Obviously he also never heard of preferred folders for externally built modules, in this case installing the modules to /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/updates should be preferred

Microsoft's grinning robots or the Brotherhood of the Mac. Which is worse? | Charlie Brooker | Comment is free | The Guardian

#13054 (incorrect dependents listed, require -f uninstall to fix) – MacPorts

unless I am wrong, this could be fixable by walking back up the tree for every entry, and checking to see if it is still a dependent - I wonder how costly such a thing would be

  • I had another MacBook on hand with a functioning DVD drive and a FW400 cable to connect the two. I booted the extra MacBook into FireWire target disk mode and connected it to the iChat-less MacBook. Its disk showed up in the Finder. Hurrah! I then slipped the Leopard DVD into the DVD drive. It took a couple of seconds, but like magic the Leopard DVD appeared on the ailing MacBook’s Desktop.

  • hold down the Shift key (Option on the Mac) when you launch iTunes. When it asks what library to use, click the "Choose Library..." button and browse to the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.
