Oh yes, we've been waiting on this for all too long. Audio should finally be close to perfect. If you're like me, and haven't had any real problems with it, please move along to the next item.
Ignite Realtime: Openfire admin, Mac OS X Server 10.5.7... | June 2009

in Sys Prefs, Openfire, Status, Stop/Start,
that is all I needed, often times, Openfire (in our test env) I would have to Stop the services and do some work,
If you dont Stop the Openfire server, things can get messed up.
xmppframework for Cocoa - Google Code
open source framework for XMPP - started in 2008 - I don't know how mature it has become - though I think I might prefer to use D-BUS
Jabber/XMPP protocol - 2005 - Squeak

To get a workable server, after installing Comanche (not sure if the version in this repository is still needed) and YAXO, execute:

Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law, and Order for Judgment | SpamSuite.com
A spam fighter on the edge of the law, and an alleged spam host using the law - interesting findings - I don't know the case, and though I don't agree with the judge, I don't agree with the editorial here either (via whitesoap)
-
Ultimately the issue here is that the judge got mad about some things that led to sanctions for contempt of court. This likely led her to find any testimony from the defense to be unreliable.
smash's world _ the offical homepage of Ben Guild (smash)
This young Boston web developer blogs about once a month, and he has an interesting eclectic selection, that touches on his rebellious ringtone project, and a strange news/pics/video aggregator mash-up called 'whitesoap'

GYachI Introduction
IM and video chat on Linux via the Yahoo! Messenger network
-
This Yahoo! client for Linux operating system supports almost all of the features you would expect to find on the official Windows Yahoo! client: Voice chat, webcams, faders, 'nicknames', audibles, avatars, display images, and more.
Empathy - GNOME Live!
This is getting a lot of mind share
-
instant messaging widgets, and a GNOME client using those widgets. It uses Telepathy and Nokia's Mission Control, and reuses Gossip's UI. The main goal is to permit desktop integration by providing libempathy and libempathy-gtk libraries.
iChat to MSN Through Jabber All Forces
-
I prefer the iLife integration of the Apple applications. The only downer is that file transfers are not available through this setup.
AIM SDK
-
On other platforms, C/C++ is supported. The AIM SDK also contains support for Java on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, and Objective-C on Mac OS X.
Jabber Australia: iChat Jabber tutorial
-
In case you want to try some other Jabber clients available for Mac OS X, here are some suggestions:
* Psi - Also available for Windows and Linux.
* Adium X - Multi-IM client though it's Jabber support is a bit weak.
* For other choices see the listing of Jabber clients.
iChat to Yahoo Through Jabber
aha - don't think any of this supports voice and video
-
not all public Jabber servers that support Yahoo work well with iChat. Several allowed me to send messages to Yahoo from iChat, but not to iChat from Yahoo. I was about ready to give up---it's not really that important to me---until I tried jabber.org.uk. Now I can use iChat for both AIM and Yahoo instant messaging.
Of Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, and putting a candle in the window
I did read the second half of this yet, but as it is I am getting a sane and easy to read introduction to Jabber, so I am coming back.
-
You may have noticed it's remarkably similar to email, but email lacks presence -- for instant messaging you don't want to just fire off messages and know they'll get to the individual at some point, you also want to know to know whether they're online right now and will get them: presence.
Google Talk Help - How do I configure iChat for Google Talk?
This still isn't working for me (perhaps it is just me.) I can see my buddy list, but not their presence, and when I send an IM, I get "Jabber error: Unknown error"
-
ou're now ready to connect to the Google Talk service using iChat.
Multimedia communication? – you need Telepathy! - Collabora Press Releases
not a press release - a full-blown article by a founder of Telepathy. Rob advocates not just the framework design, but a commercial open source community development process.
-
More connection managers are under development by the Telepathy community, including AOL/ICQ/iChat (based on the Joscar library), MSN backend (in Python) and a SIP backend (using Nokia’s Sofia-SIP).
....
Telepathy isn’t just aimed at embedded devices like the Nokia 770 – there is already a prototype GNOME client (Cohoba) written in Python using GTK and D-Bus bindings and there are plans to add Telepathy support to applications such as Gossip, Gimmie, Deskbar, Evolution, Nautilus,...
As Yannick Pellet, Nokia R&D manager comments “Telepathy is a tribute to the speed and quality of development that can be attained when the corporate and open source world work hand in hand towards the same goals. Open Source development, spot-on design and competence has allowed us to achieve a small development miracle.”

Interesting first impressions of Jingle SIP and H.323 open source apps for the Mac - May 2007
-
Therefore, this leaves Jingle enabled Apps ahead of the game, specifically Psi 0.11 beta and Spark, but at the cost of sacrificing video (both how which need further testing on my part). Lastly, iChat and Xmeeting (or ohphoneX) allow video and audio conferencing but iChat is not Free Software

Documentation of the PA module of SER (SIP Express Router) - a protoptype SIP server. The PA module provides IM presence support.
-
PA understoods only basic PIDF, but it can handle PIDF extensions like RPID too. PIDF extensions are hold as whole XML elements without knowing about their definition and thus publishing client is responsible for correct content of them.
RPID: Rich Presence Extensions to the Presence Information Data Format (PIDF)
As of June 2007, this is still a Proposed Standard
-
These extensions provide additional information about the presentity and its contacts. The information is designed so that much of it can be derived automatically, e.g., from calendar files or user activity.
