F.A.Q about Experimental Tests Invalidating Einstein's Relativity

  • How accurate are the
    measurements of the Sagnac effect?

    A.
    -
    The
    Sagnac
experiment has been measured a large number of times
during the last century. In the case of an experiment of radio waves
moving around the Earth, Michelson and Gale (Ref. Michelson A. and
    Gale H. Astroph. J. 1925, 61, 137-145)

made the first observation that the electromagnetic signals around the
world took a different time in the East and West directions in 1925.
Very recently, using a ring laser, Bilger H. R. et al. (IEEE Trans. 44,
No:2, p. 468-470) confirmed that the Sagnac effect to better than one
    part in 10
    20.
  • Consider
    a
    mass
    standing
on the surface of the Earth. After one year,
the mass submitted to gravitational acceleration is always standing
there, without changing its energy or velocity. Let us also consider
another identical mass, submitted to an inertial acceleration of one G
in outer space due to the push of a rocket. After one year, the
enormous energy given to the mass is such that its velocity has reached
an important fraction of the velocity of light. If that mass falls on
Earth its energy produces a gigantic crater on the impact.

At the beginning of time and the big bang, At what speed were the stars and planets thrown across the universe? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers

    • The rate of this expansion is measured to be 71 km/s/Mpc.

  • if you're talking about the speed of the inflationary period as put forth by physicist Alan Guth, the universe expanded faster than light speed for a very brief fraction of a second, right at the beginning of time.

  • When gravitational waves become observable they will provide a new and uniquely powerful probe of the extremes of spacetime, from the Big Bang to black holes, to address the deep questions that have emerged in Einstein's vision of the cosmos: what powered the Big Bang, what happens to space and time in black holes and what is the mysterious dark energy accelerating the expansion of the Universe?

Stellarium

This is a lovely new open source planetarium app, for Mac and Windows (and source for Linux). Once you realise there are 2 menus one on the lower left edge, and one on the left of the bottom edge, it is a dream to get started.

  • In our case, we know the proportion of the accelerations, different by 1.129 * 10-6 m/s2 /9.8 m/s2 so the left fraction is 1.0000001152. The radius R therefore has to be in the proportion of 1.0000000576 so that its square would be the acceleration proportion. If we multiply this proportion (difference) by the radius of the Earth, 6.378 * 106 meters, we get 0.367 meter, which is the required difference is Earth radius to account for the difference in the acceleration.
