Mexico’s mention beside Pakistan in a study by an organization as weighty as the Joint Forces Command (which controls almost all conventional forces based in the continental U.S.) speaks volumes about growing concern over what’s happening south of the U.S. border.
Vicious and widening violence pitting drug cartels against each other and against the Mexican state have left more than 8,000 Mexicans dead over the past two years. Kidnappings have become a routine part of Mexican daily life. Common crime is widespread. Pervasive corruption has hollowed out the state.

A tense standoff is underway in northeastern Somalia between pirates, Somali authorities, and Iran over a suspicious merchant vessel and its mysterious cargo. Hijacked late last month in the Gulf of Aden, the MV Iran Deyanat remains moored offshore in Somali waters and inaccessible for inspection. Its declared cargo consists of minerals and industrial products, however, Somali and regional officials directly involved in the negotiations over the ship and who spoke to The Long War Journal are convinced that it was heading to Eritrea to deliver small arms and chemical weapons to Somalia's Islamist insurgents.

Of course the "authorities" have already ruled there were not ties to terror just like the dead indigent Somalian Muslim found dead with a pound of cyanide (zyklon b) at a luxury hotel steps away from the DNC. Nothing to see folks, keep moving.
But the real question as pointed out in the comment section is, what was everyone doing while they watched these guys out at Calverton getting ready to fly during those months? Calverton, btw, is home to Republic builder of the A-10 and Grumman, the F-14. Were they waiting until the thing flew to make an arrest? Or were they following everyone involved seeing where it all lead.

An unmanned drone being built by an engineer on Long Island sparked a large counter-terrorism investigation across the New York area, officials tell WNBC.com. Police said they had stumbled upon overnight testing of the drone at a little-used airstrip in Calverton, Long Island.

The investigation began in February of last year, when investigators first learned testing of the drone was underway. Officials said the drone was being designed to carry more than 600 pounds of explosives.

Earlier on Friday truckers described their lucky escape from the blaze in which they had to smash windows to escape from the train after the doors jammed shut.
"There was a burning lorry and a series of explosions -- about 20 of them," Patrick Lejein, 50, from Bruges in Belgium, told Le Parisien newspaper.
"Everything was exploding around us -- tyres, fuel tanks, and then there was this smoke which prevented us from seeing and breathing properly."
Lejein added: "The door of our carriage was locked, impossible to open. We had to save ourselves by smashing a window with a hammer.
