  • Now refugees with home-based businesses have an

array of administrative services and a business location without

the expense of becoming tenants. Business Links was also

awarded a major grant from Hewlett-Packard. HP provided

$150,000 in technology and services so we can provide training

and technical assistance to refugee entrepreneurs. The mobile

training lab and other state-of-the-art equipment are also

available for use by other Institute departments.

American Public Policy and American-Muslim Politics

  • The second thing to keep in mind is that notions of what is
cruel and unusual, of what is barbaric, of what is barbaric, of what is
draconian (which is the real basis upon which America rejects these
punishments) are a function of culture, not law. It is only through changes in
American culture that American attitudes towards such things are likely to
    change.

getCITED: Academic research, citation reports and discussion lists

  • getCITED is an online, member-controlled academic database,
    directory and discussion forum.
Its contents are entered and edited by members of the academic community. By putting its content
in the hands of its members, getCITED makes it possible to enter in and search
for publications of all types. This means that, in addition to the books and
articles accessible with other databases, book chapters, conference papers,
working papers, reports, papers in conference proceedings, and other such research
outlets can all be entered and then searched for within getCITED. In addition,
getCITED makes it possible to link publications with all the publications in
their bibliographies, thereby making possible a wide variety of publication and citation
    reports.

If you're already a member of getCITED, you can sign in to your left (and thereby avoid
seeing this page again). If you're not a member, please consider joining. Everyone is
welcome to access the contents of getCITED, but in order to add to and edit its
contents, you must be signed in as a member. Why? Quite simply, so we can tell who
is making changes to its contents. Everything can be edited by everyone within
getCITED. Therefore, it is imperative to monitor who is altering its contents lest any
inappropriate information appear within it. But if you're not yet sure you want to
become a member, feel free to enter as a visitor and take a look around.

THEY RULE

  • A Brief Explanation

They Rule allows you to create maps of the interlocking directories of the top companies in the US in 2004.

The data was collected from their websites and SEC filings in early 2004, so it may not be completely accurate - companies merge and disappear and directors shift boards.

The Art of Public Records Research

    Corporate clients' need for information
from public records runs the gamut from validating a businessperson's
credentials to gaining a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Clients might ask you to assess a potential partner's
reputation, find assets, identify ownership, affiliations or
relationships, discover activity in a certain field or geographic
region, determine consumer reaction to products or services, uncover
evidence of legal problems, or conduct research on just about
anything that pertains to doing business. Often stimulating
intellectually, such work requires attention to detail, creativity,
persistence, patience and the ability to elicit information from
people who don't know what they know. In
other words, it demands superior research skills.

    Since you are reading
    The
    CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research
    ,
chances are you already know how to conduct research. But success in
public records research means acquiring special knowledge and honing
telephone and paper research skills. As the latest statistics
indicate, online searching will take you only so far. Sixty-five
percent of public records remain offline. Of the 35 percent online,
many contain no personally identifying information. (Public Records
Online, 5th edition, Facts on Demand Press, 2004, p. 12.)

This article explains important differences between public records,
public information and private information. It introduces select
public records databases and search techniques. It would take a book
to cover all worthwhile sources. It's a
good thing, then, that public records publisher,
    BRB Publications,
    Inc.
    , offers several.
