I practiced Islam for a few years and learned that Muslim prayers are not obligatory when work, circumstances, or other situations make it inconvenient or otherwise inappropriate. Therefore, Muslims are not required to pray during the work hours. It is quite acceptable and very common for them to make up missed prayers at home, even in the Middle East. Unperformed Muslim prayers can accumulate days upon days if necessary. Muslims simply cannot do them in advance of their prescribed times. Indeed, Muslims may choose to go to great lengths to pray in out of the ordinary places because of peer pressure and prestige. It is a good way to separate themselves from the other employees, gain special recognition, demonstrate piousness, and set precedent for Sharia Law. Spending several months in the Middle East as a practitioner of Islam, I neither saw nor heard of a public, or private for that matter, “footbath.” Interestingly, a Muslim can even use dirt instead of water to wash before praying if water is not available.

With regards to fasting, a Muslim does not have to fast for similar reasons as above. Fasting, unlike to praying, does not have to be made-up.

An organization should carefully weigh what is in its best interest in relation to permissiveness, expenses, safety, client needs, and compatibility with regards to employee, customer, and community responsibilities. Footbaths may cause an organization to spend unnecessarily on superstitious or superficial wants, while prayer time and space may require inconvenient and unnecessary expenses and re-scheduling.

Gender segregation can cause expensive design considerations, and workplace procedure–product handling inadequacies can be offensive to a valuable and diverse base of customers, clients, and employees.

With regards to fasting during Ramadan, the break-fast time is at sunset. This actually means that food, beverages, smoking, and sexual activities can only be enjoyed during the hours of darkness. It does not mean that one must eat at sunset. It means they ca

In the Direct Action Jihad at Calcutta, Muslim unleashed—with the connivance of the police under the direction of the Muslim League government in power—brutal massacre, pillage, plunder, rape and arson of the Hindus and Sikhs. After suffering one-and-a-half days of brutal savagery, the Hindus and Sikhs recovered from the shock and plucking courage, hit back, outnumbering the Muslims and paying back in like manners. Five days of continued violence racked up some 5,000 dead-bodies with 43% Muslim casualties. The whole outcome of this Jihad for creating Pakistan, inaugurated in the holy month of Ramadan, was up to two million deaths (roughly equal on both sides), a few million Hindus and Sikhs converted to Islam at the pain of death, and tens of thousand of predominantly Hindu and Sikh women were raped or abducted and married off to Muslims. Some twenty million people were to cross borders leaving every thing behind.

Creation of Pakistan, a pure land for the Muslims, was probably the greatest 20th-century achievement for the Muslim ummah. Jihad did not go in vein.

These were but a few examples of famous Jihads waged in the holy month of Ramadan. I wonder who need to go to school to consolidate their knowledge of the resplendent Islam, of Jihad in the holy month of Ramadan in particular. Should it be Irfan Yusuf and Prof. Muqtedar Khan, the self-proclaimed scholar of Islam, or those whom they criticize?

And Mr Yusuf, Another attack - in the name of whose Islam? Undoubtedly, it is in the name of Allah's Islam; Quran's Islam; Prophet's Islam.

Daily Mail - Councillors have been ordered not to eat during town hall meetings while Muslim colleagues fast during the holy month of Ramadan. All elected members at Left-wing Tower Hamlets Council in East London have been sent an email asking them to follow strict Islamic fasting during September no matter what their faith. As well as restricting food and drink until after sunset, the authority’s leaders have decided to reduce the number of meetings throughout the month so they do not clash with the requirements of Ramadan. …. But some members of the Labour-run council say the demands favour one religious group over the others.

  • It is the policy of Seattle School Board that no religious belief or non-belief be promoted by the School District or its employees, and none should be disparaged. We do not have a prayer policy, nor was anything kept quiet. During Ramadan, a couple of Muslim families whose children attend Dunlap contacted the school and asked for the reasonable religious accommodation of allowing their children a place to prayer during the month preceding their holiday Eide. It is my understanding that it is lawful for schools to excuse students briefly from class to enable them to fulfill their religious obligations. My further understanding is that due to safety issues it is allowable for a staff member to supervise those obligations. At Dunlap during this month, between classes, an ELL teacher supervised students for five minutes each day. This no longer happens as Ramadan is over. Yes, any family, from any religious group may request reasonable religious accommodation from any public school. I am unaware of what Aki Kurose does at their school but I assume it is a similar effort to make a religious accommodation.
