I thought we only had one president at a time? That's what President Obama was saying when he was asked to take a stand on the Gaza action by Israel last month. According to reports, Obama and his team have been having talks with Iran and Syria for months, and the talks were begun EVEN BEFORE THE ELECTION. From AFP:
US President Barack Obama has already used experts within the last few months to hold high-level but discreet talks with both Iran and Syria, organizers of the meetings told AFP.

US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday.
"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.
After nearly three decades of severed ties, Obama said shortly after taking office this month that he is willing to extend a diplomatic hand to Tehran if the Islamic republic is ready to "unclench its fist".

Dozens of Iranians burnt posters of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in Tehran on Tuesday and waved Palestinian flags in support of Gaza, according to a witness and photographs.
Iranian demonstrators have often burnt effigies or pictures of U.S. presidents in protests. This appeared to be the first time Obama's picture had been defaced so publicly, a week before his inauguration as president.
Iran has condemned the West, and the United States in particular, for not doing more to stop Israel's attacks on Gaza. The 18-day-old offensive, which Israel says is to stop rockets being fired at it, has killed more than 900 Palestinians.
"Where are the freedom seekers?" read one poster held up by a demonstrator at Tuesday's protest. It had the word "Gaza" emblazoned on it and an image of a weeping Palestinian.

Around 6:00 p.m. ET yesterday, the RBO inbox received a Yahoo! News link for a slideshow of photos, including this one. Approximately nine hours later, at around 3:30 a.m. ET this morning, the link for those photos had gone inactive.
Quick-thinking RBO contributor Beethovenqueen had saved copies of those pix (three more are posted at the bottom of the page). As she wrote, “Cripes!! The first photo showing Obama is NOT loved around the world and may actually be hurling us into deeper problems and ‘the forces that be’ scrub it from sight!!”

The question has made the rounds in Iran since last month, when a pro-government Web site published a Hadith (or tradition) from a Shiite text of the 17th century. According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (the prophet's cousin and son-in-law) prophesied that at the End of Times and just before the return of the Mahdi, the Ultimate Saviour, a "tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West." Commanding "the strongest army on earth," the new ruler in the West will carry "a clear sign" from the third imam, whose name was Hussein Ibn Ali. The tradition concludes: "Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us." In a curious coincidence Obama's first and second names--Barack Hussein--mean "the blessing of Hussein" in Arabic and Persian. His family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, which means "he is with us," the magic formula in Majlisi's tradition.

UNITED NATIONS - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad put Barack Obama on the spot Thursday, offering to debate with both U.S. presidential candidates when he arrives at the United Nations next week for its annual summit.
The fiery Iranian leader, who provoked a storm of controversy when he visited last year, said he would debate global issues at a public forum in UN headquarters if the candidates agreed.
