I practiced Islam for a few years and learned that Muslim prayers are not obligatory when work, circumstances, or other situations make it inconvenient or otherwise inappropriate. Therefore, Muslims are not required to pray during the work hours. It is quite acceptable and very common for them to make up missed prayers at home, even in the Middle East. Unperformed Muslim prayers can accumulate days upon days if necessary. Muslims simply cannot do them in advance of their prescribed times. Indeed, Muslims may choose to go to great lengths to pray in out of the ordinary places because of peer pressure and prestige. It is a good way to separate themselves from the other employees, gain special recognition, demonstrate piousness, and set precedent for Sharia Law. Spending several months in the Middle East as a practitioner of Islam, I neither saw nor heard of a public, or private for that matter, “footbath.” Interestingly, a Muslim can even use dirt instead of water to wash before praying if water is not available.
With regards to fasting, a Muslim does not have to fast for similar reasons as above. Fasting, unlike to praying, does not have to be made-up.
An organization should carefully weigh what is in its best interest in relation to permissiveness, expenses, safety, client needs, and compatibility with regards to employee, customer, and community responsibilities. Footbaths may cause an organization to spend unnecessarily on superstitious or superficial wants, while prayer time and space may require inconvenient and unnecessary expenses and re-scheduling.
Gender segregation can cause expensive design considerations, and workplace procedure–product handling inadequacies can be offensive to a valuable and diverse base of customers, clients, and employees.

It is not the radical Muslim who asks for accommodations to their religion. The radicals are easy to fight because the average American realizes they are dangerous. Moderate Muslims, because they do not swing scimitars in the air, do not seem as if they are a danger to Western Civilization, however the assumption is mistaken.
More insidious than Osama Bin Laden is Mohammed Bin Ordinary. Because of political correctness, because of misplaced tolerance of those who think differently than we do, because of fears of being called racists, bigots and Islamophobes, because of these reasons we allow moderate Muslims in our midst.
It is moderate Muslims who ask us not to insult their religion because it is a blasphemy worthy of death. It is moderate Muslims who ask us not to criticize the culture they come from; who are we to condemn Honor Killings, stonings, vaginal mutilations?.
It is moderates who ask us to install footbaths at universities.

Washington Times - Military report: Terms 'jihad,' 'Islamist' needed
A U.S. military "Red Team" charged with challenging conventional thinking says that words like "jihad" and "Islamist" are needed in discussing 21st-century terrorism and that federal agencies that avoid the words soft-pedaled the link between religious extremism and violent acts.
"We must reject the notion that Islam and Arabic stand apart as bodies of knowledge that cannot be critiqued or discussed as elements of understanding our enemies in this conflict," said the internal report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times.
The report, "Freedom of Speech in Jihad Analysis: Debunking the Myth of Offensive Words," was written by unnamed civilian analysts and contractors for the U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for the Middle East and South Asia. It is thought to be the first official document to challenge those in the government who seek to downplay the role of Islam in inspiring some terrorist violence.

Muslims should take advantage of the global financial crisis to build an economic system compatible with Islamic principles, influential Sunni cleric Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi said on Sunday.“The collapse of the capitalist system based on usury and paper and not on goods traded on the market is proof that it is in crisis and shows that Islamic economic philosophy is holding up,” said the Egyptian-born, Qatar-based cleric.
“The Western system has collapsed and we have a complete economic philosophy as well as spiritual strength,” he said at Sunday’s opening of a conference on Jerusalem.

A former Italian president says his country allowed Palestinian terror groups to roam free in exchange for not attacking Italian targets.
Francesco Cossiga's admission confirmed claims of such a deal revealed last week in an interview in the Corriere della Sera newspaper with Bassam Abu Sharif, the former chief of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
In a letter Aug. 15 in Corriere della Sera, Cossiga described a "secret 'non-belligerence pact' between the
Italian state and Palestinian resistance organizations, including terrorist groups" such as the PFLP. The deal, he said, had been devised by Prime Minister Aldo Moro, who in 1978 was kidnapped and assassinated by the Italian terror group the Red Brigades.

She explained her personal solution ? the local Islamic school, beginning with kindergarten. Instead of worrying about her daughters dressing provocatively and behaving inappropriately with boys, she talked about the modest school uniforms they wore, and the single-gender classes her daughters attended.
She then began to discuss Islam, focusing on the commonalities it has with Christianity. The sales pitch had clearly begun. While in the previous section, the men had quoted over and over again sura from the Quran calling for violent jihad, the women’s session focused on the “gentler” side of Islam.
The same imam who demanded that the men continue in the path of jihad did a complete 180-degree turn in this session, stressing instead the suras that promoted the “brotherhood” between Muslims, Christians and Jews. “After all, we worship the same God, and follow the teachings in the books he gave each of us. We are all the same, we are all People of the Book,” he stressed.
The differences between the sessions were striking. Clearly the second session was a recruiting session.
Were the women aware of what was being taught in the first session? Certainly those women who spoke Arabic should have been.
The reason for concern is obvious: Two different doctrines are being promoted. One peaceful, friendly, warm and fuzzy doctrine is being used to draw people in, with a focus on the well-being of their children.
