Drape's Takes: What I’ve Learned By Creating Something Black & White & Read All Over
-
March 2007 was an eventful month for me. It began, on a personal level, with the birth of my daughter. On a professional level, March was a month of multiple conferences, trainings, and professional development. During the month, I was able to see three key presentations that affected me with such profundity that I was personally compelled – rather strongly, I might add – to create Pay Attention:
* David Warlick gave his 21st Century Literacy keynote presentation at UCET. http://tinyurl.com/6fhuk8
* Ian Jukes gave his Teaching in the New Digital Landscape presentation at the 21st Century Literacy Conference.
* Finally, I saw Karl Fisch’s Did You Know… presentation at a small conference put on by McRel.
Upon seeing Did You Know… for the first time:
* I was amazed at its impact.
* I wondered about Karl’s sources.
* I immediately thought that we needed something similar that addressed teaching practices specifically.
* I also thought – and no offense is intended to Karl in saying this – but I thought that if Karl could do this, I certainly could too.
In retrospect, here are two “favorites” as they relate to Pay Attention.
* This is my favorite blog post about the video. I love Graham’s thought process. Having spoken with both Rachel and Graham now makes this post even more meaningful to me.

* This person wrote my favorite email response to Pay Attention. Her thoughts have influenced the way I currently approach using technology in the classroom.

For the (Diigo) record: Nothing I have done professionally has affected my career more than when I chose to create something black and white and read all over. - darrendraper on 2008-04-04
