Music Review: “Break Up The Concrete” by The Pretenders
Break Up The Concrete opens with energetic “Boots Of Chinese Plastic”. The guitar on this track is fast and catchy. The arrangement of the guitar where it always comes after Chrissie is awesome.
Music Review: “Limbo, Panto” by Wild Beasts
Limbo, Panto welcomes listeners with "Vigil For A Fuddy Duddy". In the beginning of this opener, Hayden already can be heard doing a falsetto. His voice echoes through the steady pace of the music. In the chorus, he voice starts to plant a special trademark upon him.
Music Review: “Glasvegas” by Glasvegas
Glasvegas opens with loud and ambitious "Flowers & Football Tops". It has a distant instrumental in the beginning which gradually sounds comes louder and richer as the track hits the right momentum. Once James enters, you can make out the rhythm and music piece this track is heading to.
Music Review: “Noble Beast” by Andrew Bird
Noble Beast opens with really gorgeous “Oh No”. The moment the music enters, i was totally in amazement and startled by the beauty of the music. Even the whistle did one hell of a good job on this track. It was an amalgamation of joy and melancholy.
Music Review: “Get Guilty” by A.C. Newman
Get Guilty welcomes us with roaring "There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve..." The guitar energy on this track is hyped and raw. You can almost expect what is coming just as this track opens. In the chorus, A.C. Newman just sings as if he's talking effortlessly.
Music Review: “Who Killed Harry Houdini?” by I’m From Barcelona
Who Killed Harry Houdini? opens with anthemic “Andy”. I love the choir in the beginning where I’m From Barcelona go, “An… Dy…” It has the quality to make you quiet and just listen attentively. Shortly, you would hear Emanuel come on.
Music Review: “Moody Motorcycle” by Human Highway
Moody Motorcycle begins with somewhat catchy “The Sound”. The guitar in the opening really gives a very good impression. I instantly click with the track without making any further effort to try to connect with The Sound. It’s hard to tell who is the one taking charge of the vocals here, but they do really make a great team.
Music Review: “The Time Of The Assassins” by Nickel Eye
The Time Of The Assassins has a very cool opening track. “Intro (Everytime)” slowly builds up the track tempo with its clever playing of guitar, bass and drums. It first starts with the catchy bass that goes on for a while to make sure the listeners are set into a mood that will be ready for the next wave of clever surprises. The guitar comes in with jazzy elements together with the drums.
Music Review: “The Week That Was” by The Week That Was
The Week That Was opens with "Learn To Learn" that is filled with pounding and echoic drums. This track is filled with terror-like atmosphere. The music on this track leaves you in awe. The violin, piano, guitar and everything else score a big time here.
Music Review: “The Airborne Toxic Event” by The Airborne Toxic Event
The Airborne Toxic Event opens with ambitious “Wishing Well”. It has a synth opening before slowly crushing in with the guitar riff. I can feel that this song is slowly building up and eventually will explode and release at the right time. Meanwhile, we’ll just have to enjoy the music and the vocals of Mikel. He sings as if he’s talking away. In the chorus, the music gets rougher and louder.
Music Review: “Luna” by The Aliens
The Aliens’ Luna opens with multi-genres and singing styles “Bobby’s Song”. It’s a track that closes slightly beyond the 10 minutes mark. What a long opening by The Aliens! This opening track, though with its 10 minutes length, doesn’t have a boring moment and you would most likely enjoy it from start to finish. It begins kind of slow with the electronic music and reaches some highs and lows throughout the journey of the track.
Music Review: “Microcastle” by Deerhunter
Microcastle opens with a brief intro “Cover Me (Slowly)” which is also the opening for the second track. The music on this track is slow and dying. It has a sense of sorrow in it as Deerhunter go on performing it. You can hear the synthesizers keeping the background afloat as the guitar enters and creates the rhythm that goes along with this intro. An emotional journey by Deerhunter.
Music Review of High Places by High Places
High Places invite us to their music land with opener “The Storm”. It’s a soothing and friendly song that no one will say a bad thing about it. The string instrument that is played throughout the song is rather cute and never fails to conjure images of India. Mary’s voice is lovely and angelic as she sings through while Rob just keeps himself busy with the music and ensures that it goes well with Mary’s voice.
Music Review of A Hundred Things Keep Me Up At Night by Love Is All
A Hundred Things Keep Me Up at Night welcomes us with fast tempo “New Beginnings”. The opening part shows us that this track is bound to be great with the looping guitar effects. Once the Saxophone comes in, i slightly smile as i find it funny and cute.
Music Review: “Little Joy” by Little Joy
Little Joy opens with oldies-like “The Next Time Around”. I love the reggae guitar opening, it just makes you feel like you’re on a holiday on the Hawaiian beach. Once Rodrigo enters and sings, the remaining Little Joy just join him in the backing vocals.
Music Review: "The Rhumb Line" by Ra Ra Riot | Surf For Your Indie Need!
-
The Rhumb Line by Ra Ra Riot kicks off with rather anthemic “Ghost Under Rocks”. The strings and bass mixing with the howls by Ra Ra Riot in the beginning signals a good start. The chorus on Ghost Under Rocks twists slightly from the verse with the music entering in an orchestra-like atmosphere.
Music Review: "Dear Science" by TV On The Radio | Surf For Your Indie Need!
-
Dear Science opens with “Halfway Home” that will certainly build up your momentum and expect a great time listening to TV On The Radio. Tunde sings in a low husky voice after a funny brief introduction with, “Ba, ba, ba…” The music that surrounds Tunde as he sings creates a wall of sound which does not stop at all. There is no break at all in the verse except for Tunde’s vocals.
Music Review: "Merriweather Post Pavilion" by Animal Collective | Surf For Your Indie Need!
-
Merriweather Post Pavilion welcomes us with the somewhat weird opener “In The Flowers”. It starts off with distant sound of synthesizers and other electronic music instruments. It has the feeling that will leave you thinking that you’re not real, everything is just in a made-up world.
