Twitter as a free-form prediction market - more of a semantic/sentiment prediction market. Doesn't mean that prediction markets themselves aren't valuable of course. Only mainstream, talked about activities are going to be measurable like this. Need volume.
Browser-based "realtime" twitter stream, based on search terms you control. Quite flexible, seems to be very stable, built with a "presentation mode" to remove all navigation extras for "live" streams in conferences, etc..
If Intelligence agencies, and now The Army can loosen up and allow viewing/participation in 2.0 - what's YOUR company's excuse for blocking? Hearing real stories from real soldiers is pretty radical transparency - yet with guidelines (not a bad idea).
"The Army has ordered its network managers to give soldiers access to social media sites like Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter, Danger Room has learned. That move reverses a years-long trend of blocking the web 2.0 locales on military networks."
Thinking about emergence, feedback loops, virality recently - and the issue of influence. Re-tweeting (others passing your message on within twitter) measures have been coming up as much more useful indicators of influence on Twitter than raw #s of followers. Retweetrank is one service measuring retweets.
"Obama is the most followed twitter user, but who is producing the most interesting content across the twittersphere lately?
Retweets are great indication of the originator’s topical influence and the audience’s interest. Recently, after reading a post “Are You Retweetable“, from Todd Sampson (co-founder MyBlogLog), I thought of creating a quick hack, Retweetrank, for ranking twitter users based on the number of retweets."
Made it to position #14 (up from #15) in the latest update to the "top analyst twitters" by Jonny at TechnoBabble 2.0. Thanks for the updates Jonny - nice analysis of the analysts.
Talking in our Enterprise 2.0 class today about the dangers of "remembering in public" - via social bookmarking, twitter, etc.. Transparency can be a bad thing - depending on which side you sit.
Inside jokes for search geeks...
Twitter acts as a "back-channel" and can have multiple layers to follow, which is difficult to do within Twitter (web or clients) directly. Here's an example of @amandachapel mentioning our research.
Wow, painful to find the feeds on Last.fm. Testing feeding my music listening habits from iTunes, thru Last.fm, out as RSS into Twitterfeed, and into Twitter. Yeesh.
If you're interested in visualizing your Twitter activity, here you go. Writeup on Mac setup, and link to generic setup using Google Chart API.
Discover, Listen to, and Share Podcasts with Pluggd - nice interface, integration to Twitter to spread around memes
A FireFox plugin to enable twitter in a siderbar within FireFox. Beats having another application open, although starting to wonder about the number of FireFox plugins I'm running.
