The Washington Post, Dan Froomkin and the establishment media - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com
"To be a real establishment journalist (objective), you're not allowed to say when one side is lying -- even when they are."
And we wonder why news organizations are dying.
-
Mainstream-media political journalism is in danger of becoming increasingly irrelevant, but not because of the Internet, or even Comedy Central. The threat comes from inside. It comes from journalists being afraid to do what journalists were put on this green earth to do. . .
-
"If mainstream-media political journalists don’t start calling bullshit more often, then we do risk losing our primacy — if not to the comedians then to the bloggers.
"I still believe that no one is fundamentally more capable of first-rate bullshit-calling than a well-informed beat reporter - whatever their beat. We just need to get the editors, or the corporate culture, or the self-censorship – or whatever it is – out of the way" -- Dan Froomkin, fired yesterday by The Washington Post.

Why journalists should learn to code (and why some shouldn't bother) :: 10,000 Words :: multimedia, online journalism news and reviews
-

Her rates — for copywriting, marketing and résumés — have climbed to $100 an hour after starting at $50, she said, and she has steady clients, both corporate and individual, in places like Australia, Ireland and Kuwait.

Skills training is not enough for the digital journalist
-
skills, though, aren't the answer. As one news executive said, "We need to take staff to Web 2.0 and beyond – to make learning more nimble and flexible."
-
Training that is based solely on techonology would be like teaching a police trainee how to shoot a gun, but not explaining the rules of engagement.

Should journalists vote? Yes, no, sometimes - Politico.com Print View
And we wondered how Bush won two elections! Now we know. It was all those purer than pure journalists who thought they shouldn't vote because it might compromise their objectivity. How stupid is that!
-
remain agnostic about elections, even in private
-
I feel strongly enough about it that I’ve only voted in one election in my life
