The American Press on Suicide Watch - Columnist Frank Rich - NYTimes.com
-
IF you wanted to pick the moment when the American news business went on suicide watch, it was almost exactly three years ago. That’s when Stephen Colbert, appearing at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, delivered a monologue accusing his hosts of being stenographers who had, in essence, let the Bush White House get away with murder (or at least the war in Iraq).
-
to the Beltway’s bafflement, Colbert’s riff went viral overnight, ultimately to have a marathon run as the most popular video on iTunes. The cultural disconnect between the journalism establishment and the public it aspires to serve could not have been more vividly dramatized.

Personal Technology: Is Twitter the future of news? | The Jakarta Post

The problem is that neither of these create networks. They are both forms of information delivery. Delivery is just a pipe: You read this newspaper because someone delivered it to you, either on your doorstep or to the vendor you bought it from.
-
And yet the Internet is not just about delivery but about both information and network. Information is just that. Text, photos, video. Data. The Gospel was information. A photo on Facebook is information.

Basics - TV, Phone, Internet - How to Choose the Best ‘Bundle’ - NYTimes.com
Find the best price
-
First, establish your baseline, said David Tice, vice president at Knowledge Networks, a consulting firm based in Menlo Park, Calif. Add the amount you already pay for phone, television and Internet. Then figure out if you want extra services, like high-definition channels or faster Internet speeds.
-
An easy way to comparison-shop is on Web sites that focus on television, Internet and phone services in the same way that sites like Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia do for travel. Most of the sites — like www.Allconnect.com, www.Digitallanding.com, www.Bridgevine.com and www.BundleMyServices.com — have been in business for years, offering one-stop convenience for people who want to transfer utilities or even need to switch postal addresses. But only in the last couple of years have they begun to offer comparisons for bundles.

Tape Delay by NBC Faces End Run by Online Fans - NYTimes.com
TV networks have learned nothing from the music industry's battle against file sharing.
-
NBC’s decision to delay broadcasting the opening ceremonies by 12 hours sent people across the country to their computers to poke holes in NBC’s technological wall — by finding newsfeeds on foreign broadcasters’ Web sites and by watching clips of the ceremonies on YouTube and other sites.

As the first Summer Games of the broadband age commenced in China, old network habits have never seemed so archaic — or so irrelevant.
