Italian police on Tuesday arrested mobsters, businessmen and local politicians who allegedly used corrupt practices and bribes to gain control of a project to build wind farms in Sicily.
Operation "Aeolus," named after the ancient Greek god of winds, netted eight suspects, arrested in the Trapani area of western Sicily, as well as in Salerno on the Italian mainland and in the northern city of Trento.

Debate erupted on Thursday over who or what caused the mysterious destruction of a giant wind turbine in northern England - with everything from UFOs to the freezing winter weather taking the blame.
Residents of Conisholme in Lincolnshire discovered that a 72-foot (21.9-metre) long metal blade has been torn off a turbine at their local wind farm while another has been badly damaged.

The results from a Danish study published in the International Journal of Technology, Policy and Management show that by 2040, wind power dominated countries will be left with millions of tonnes of scrap metal, much of which cannot be recycled.
'The rubbish problem exists and it's mainly the blades that cause the problem. They are made from composite materials, which are difficult to separate into clean sections for recycling,' said the head of the study, Per Dannemand Andersen from the Technical University of Denmark.

Despite what one might be led to believe by the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) and other wind lobbyists there are relatively frequent periods when there is virtually no wind and, therefore, virtually no output from wind turbines, however wide their distribution throughout the UK. -
"Extreme lows or highs in wind speed are a natural feature of the UK wind climate; however a diversified wind power system would be less affected as it is rare that these extreme events affect large areas of the country at the same time. This report found that:
"Low wind speed conditions affecting 90 per cent or more of the UK would occur in around one hour every five years during winter."

IT seems the wind farm developer Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) has been winded by its own inaccuracy.
The Denbrook Wind Farm developers admit and regret making an error, and have been obliged to allow the issue of noise to be re-examined by returning to public inquiry.
It seems they produced erroneous information when processing noise data used as part of the project assessment, and consequently approval of the proposed nine-turbine development at a previous public inquiry may have been based on misleading information.

accidents in Denmark this year which have prompted the Danish Climate Minister, Connie Hedegaard, to demand an investigation.
One accident led to the blades being thrown up to 1km.
Peter Wenzel Kruse, spokesperson for the turbine company involved, Vestas, stated "they're not infallible, but we are learning from our mistakes".
