Bombich Software: Carbon Copy Cloner
-
Clone, synchronize, backup. Schedule and forget it. Try it 'til you trust it.
The key to a successful backup plan is to actually do the backups regularly. When left to a human, the task often gets tacked on to the end of a very long list of other things to do. When you eventually have a catastrophe, the data is simply gone. You know that feeling -- you just lost six years of family photos. Your kids being born, their first birthdays, their first everything. The answer to this is consistent and regular backups, placed on a schedule and handled automatically by your computer.
CCC 3 features an interface designed to make the cloning and backup procedure very intuitive. In addition to general backup, CCC can also clone one hard drive to another, copying every single block or file to create an exact replica of your source hard drive. CCC's block-level copy offers the absolute best fidelity in the industry!

Taming Your Multiple IE Standalones
Standalone IE's with version number in title-bar and conditional comments enabled.
-
Multiple versions of Explorer for Windows on a single computer have revolutionized CSS bug testing for websites, but sadly the different IE browser windows appear identical to the eye, potentially leading to confusion and testing mistakes. Also, Microsoft's proprietary Conditional Comments don't operate properly on these standalones, making advanced usage of CC's a guessing game. These problems have now been resolved! But first, a little background regarding the standalones.

Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances.
The affected batteries were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4.
Apple is voluntarily recalling the affected batteries and has initiated a worldwide exchange program to provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge. This program is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities.

Norton Ad Blocking Blocks Non-Ad Web Content
Reason why some visitors cannot see your carefully crafted images!!! This pisses me off!
-
Many images on this and other web sites will never appear on your monitor if you use the Ad Blocking feature contained in various Norton software products. This is because the Norton software can block images based only on their size, not their content or purpose. Symantec, the maker of Norton software products, reasons that if a picture is the size of an advertisement, then it must be an advertisement. Since legitimate images come in all sizes, what you see in your browser while using Norton's ad blocking software is unpredictable, and certainly not what web page authors intended. Because this Norton âfeatureâ is enabled by default and does not tell you when blocks what it believes to be an ad, you never know that you are missing legitimate non-advertising content. Making assumptions about the purpose of an image based on its size is clearly ridiculous, especially for a company that takes itself so seriously as a leader in the security field. If Symantec uses this kind of flawed logic to determine what you are able to view on your computer, can you trust them to keep your computer virus free? Perhaps McAffee offers a better choice.

Daring Fireball: The Fish Rots From the Head
Opinions about why the Adobe Macromedia Merger is bad for us designers.
-
But I think that’s partly why the article is instructive — because from Adobe’s perspective, I don’t think the Macromedia acquisition is much about Macromedia, either. What it shows is that the Macromedia deal is not a turning point in the company’s history, but instead an unfortunate result of a turning point they crossed several years ago.
