Si vous voulez faire des analyses de marché, regardons ensemble celui de la part d’attention prise par Twitter vs la TV ou Facebook sur une cible donnée. Là ce serait intéressant. Si seulement 4% des français s’en servent, 28% connaissent la marque. Et si les politique ne savent pas s’en servir, cela ne veut pas pour autant dire que ça ne sert à rien.

- Mais dès qu’il s’agit d’être actif, cela demande une réflexion importante alliant des buts et ce qui s’apparenterait à une stratégie et une tactique. Se positionner est important car sur Twitter, tout le monde est au même niveau et se différentie surtout par la constance à entretenir son personnage. Twitter n’est pas un réseau social où la structuration du profil et la mise en partage de contenus structure et historicise les choses. Sur Twitter, avoir une lecture d’un utilisateur ne va pas de soi. Elle ne se constitue que par un suivi régulier. Twitter demande des choix clairs et durables, de la discipline. Oui, les twitterrers sont des besogneux et méritent le respect.
- Et si Twitter sans les jeunes trouvait un sens plus mature, peut être même plus business ? cela expliquerai certains succès commerciaux, comme ceux de Dell, par exemple. Où le fait qu’il motorise très bien le suivi d’une audience qualifiée et monétisable par ailleurs…
- La vérité sur Twitter, c’est que c’est juste un outil qui permet de fabriquer un flux temps réel, de s’y connecter et d’interagir avec lui. À vous de le remplir du (des) sens que vous avez envie qu’il motorise. À vous de l’exploiter avec des buts et une stratégie. Les deux ne sont pas fournis dans la boîte. C’est à vous de les inventer.

The researchers examined half a million tweets during the study. The team looked for tweets mentioning a brand and why the brand was mentioned -- to inform others, express a view on the brand or something else -- and found that people were using tweets to connect with the products.

About 20 percent of the tweets contained product information in the form of asking and providing, thus giving companies a "rich source" of information concerning issues and questions that customers have regarding its products.
- A lot of the brand comments were positive," he said. "There are some good products out there, or at least products that people are happy with." This research is among the first academic studies in the area of micro-communication within the business sector. Jansen will use the research as a backbone to build on. The research team is now conducting a focused study specifically on how companies manage and use their Twitter accounts.

- Figures suggests that many independent bloggers, especially in technology, media, and political sectors, have dramatically reduced their blogging schedules, preferring instead to publish their thoughts, or refer to the thoughts of others, in 140-character segments throughout the day, rather than regularly come up with 500-word blog posts.
- One consequence of the 140-character limit (and a key reason why the real-time stream is so easily adaptable to other uses) is that messages are largely atomic in nature. Each refers to an individual item: a thought, link, event, product, person, or company. They also typically contain some evaluative or emotional component, such as "Look at X because it's cool or interesting" or "I support Y" or "I disagree" or "this is no good."
- This discrete nature of Twitter messages means that items, and the sentiments attached to them, can be extracted and then aggregated, allowing us to measure the activity being generated around a particular subject and, in some cases, the general feeling about it.
- One of the more magical aspects of Twitter is that it reminds us that arbitrary constraints can have a liberating and profound effect on creativity.
- The limitations also give them license to play with language in a way that would not make sense or be valued in other modes. The same goes for music, with its meter and form, and even TV shows and movies, whose time restrictions and story constraints can make for enjoyable, funny, scary, or moving experiences.
- Only 20% of Twitter traffic comes from the site itself. The other 80% comes from users accessing the platform through APIs.
- This new capability revealed another layer of value, because it enabled people to access particular threads of information. Users could now search for other users, words, and specific topics.
