Another app that I've seen discussed in the context of electronic assessment and feedback. Useful if the original document is Word or one of the other Office files. Reviews claim that it doesn't work with an external keyboard. Premium edition syncs with Dropbox and Google Docs and costs £11.99. Worth a punt at that price anyway?

I asked for suggestions for a replacement for Netskills TONIC and Sam Oakley (@rscsam) also suggested SAFARI "a guided expedition through the information world." This resource was developed by the Open University (OU) and looks like a comprehensive tutorial on accessing, finding and reviewing information  -- and not just from the Internet. The recommended time to work through the examples is 10-13.5 hours. TONIC was much more of a beginners guide to the internet but Safari looks an excellent resource for students embarking on a research project.

"The Design Studio is a developing toolkit which draws together a range of existing and emergent resources around curriculum design and delivery and the role technology plays in supporting these processes and practices. The Studio will provide access to project outcomes and outputs from the JISC Curriculum Design and Delivery programmes as they are developed and will continue to be sustained as a community resource after the programmes finish."

"CompendiumLD is a software tool for designing learning activities using a flexible visual interface. It is being developed as a tool to support lecturers, teachers and others involved in education to help them articulate their ideas and map out the design or learning sequence. Feedback from users suggests the process of visualising design makes their design ideas more explicit and highlights issues that they may not have noticed otherwise. It also provides a useful means of representing their designs so that they can be shared with others. CompendiumLD provides a set of icons to represent the components of learning activities; these icons may be dragged and dropped, then connected to form a map representing a learning activity. "

Why, when the Academic Committee at ULC issued an edict that there should be a base-level course site for the VLE, there was no objection from the academics. Would the same happen in Swansea?

"This year’s programme offers more than ever before with two distinct elements demonstrating the advantages of online conferencing. Firstly, the pre-conference activity week, starting on the 15th November, provides a platform for delegates and agencies, such as the JISC Regional Support Centres, to run their own short presentations and showcase events. The main conference then starts on the 22nd November with sessions programmed under two themes, each with its own keynote presentation and plenary. The conference opening keynote is by David Puttnam (Lord Puttnam of Queensgate); and the final keynote is delivered this year by Ewan McIntosh. All sessions in the main conference are live but recorded for delegates who cannot attend at the time. Sessions are also supported by asynchronous discussion forums open to all delegates. "

If you visit this site you'll see on the home page the famous Web2.0 tools image that has become a cliche in e-Learning presentations. Nonetheless, this comprehensive collection of free to use tools, curated by Paul Andrews, is a useful resource for people wishing to build a PLE or inform students what tools they might want to use in their own PLEs. \n\nThanks to PLENK2010 link gopher @pgsimoes for tweeting this. It was new to me, but looking at the Facebook likes page not new to my colleagues at Swansea - and Paul only lives 50 miles down the road in Newport Wales!
