What If? - grownupdigital
Many commonalities are emerging in these NetGen videos -- one of which is the importance of harnessing the power of mobiles in learning. Whether or not you agree or feel that the students are being "whiney" (as many educators often think with such videos) -- there is a point to be made.
I have particularly noticed how kids keep gravitating to the itouch and iphone as useful in school - it has reappeared over and over in these student videos. They were given free reign to picture improvements in THEIR education based upon the research of their generation and they keep coming back here.
It has me thinking -- no conclusions yet, but really, they are teaching me.
RFID Readers - grownupdigital
Interesting video on rfid readers, not sure if the student totally understands RFID readers, but I love how the video is made - by drawing on a board!!
2009-Horizon-Report-K12.pdf (application/pdf Object)

gwap.com - About
Fascinating method of tagging images and helping train the web. Some students turned this up for netgened about the semantic web. So amazing what students turn up!

Hulu - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
(Warning - this movie is probably a PG-13 but not rated because it is online. Not for you to show your students at school, although, they are probably already watching it.)
This is a very viral video that a lot of the kids are talking about. (It came out LAST June but now is a hot seller on Amazon.) Neil Patrick Harris wants to join the Evil League of Evil. It is 42 minutes long. It is ironic how much of entertainment is becoming viral -- television can no longer control what gets watched - it gets "put out there" and then they see what is watched. In many ways, this viral way of video viewing is very interesting.
Not saying this should be watched -- it is quite hot with many college students. I could see how much that is said would resonate with college kids.
Listen to the vernacular - even though some of you may find this very napolean dynamite-ish.
"I'm just trying to change the world. I don't have time for a grudge match for every poser in a parka."
It grows on you -- stick with it.
Oh and be warned there are few words in here. But, no rating to catch it! (not sure why not rating movies just released online.) This is sponsored by XO laptop.
Wiggio - Makes it easy to work in groups.
This is a website that facilitates working in groups. This looks fascinating and we may test it some time in our class. This is something that students should take a look at before going to college so that they can lead their groups. Being used in colleges a bit it seems.
From the founder:
"Over the past 6 months we had a Beta site up for testing. Just last week we removed the Beta and launched some major new functionality before this semester started. Wiggio is now picking up over 1,000 college users a day and is increasing daily, with a current base of over 40,000 active users. Wiggio users now span over 500 college campuses (and the number of high schools is also starting to grow organically)."

Virsona: Talking History contest
Virsona is sponsoring a talking history contest in which you create a virtual person that answers questions like the person in history would answer. This could be a great excercise for a history class if you have characters that you investigate deeply. This would be fascinating.
From Age of Empires to Zork: Using Games in the Classroom | Academic Commons
Very nice article about using Games in the Classroom from Todd Bryant. (Hat tip to Jo McLeay's plurk about this one.)
reQall: What's reQall
Liz Kolb tipped me onto this gem that I will look at. She says it does things just like Jott - it has several features for iphones. I'm going to look at it and let you know how Jott and reqall compare -- if it is worth the $3.95 a month for Jott to work w/ RTM and Google Cal.

From Stephen Downes - Google Chrome is Live -- a lite web browser from Google. Gotta give it a try.
Amazon Confirms Student Version Of Kindle
Student version of Kindle is confirmed for students. Oh so cool. My students really like the idea of a Kindle and I'm wanting to get a hold of one. They will HAVE to make it easier to add all blogs to the information on a Kindle -- I'll want their Google calendar and my class blog to download automatically. It is too hard to add info to the Kindle now unless you publish a book, and then it is easier. Need an ebook of some kind.
Official Google Blog: Making terms of service clearer
Google has clarified their terms of service for Google Chrome. It is still sparking a lot of controversy.

Interested to see this software. Hope to get a copy and see how it works with my students.\n\nI have no doubt that moving content to mobile devices is going to be an incredibly useful thing to be able to do in the coming years. Do it now or do it later?\n\nHow about 1:1 cell phone schools instead of laptops.
