One of the great pleasures of my life is working with the Flat Classroom project but now, we have these incredible conferences -- capped at around 250 people students and educators come together to envision the future of education and understand 21st century learning environments by experience. We flatten the conference as students pitch ideas to teachers and vice versa. Our goal is you leave the conference ready to collaborate. It is intense but it is life changing and fun. Hope you can join us - here are the dates - go to our website to find out more. This is run by our 501(c)3 nonprofit. We do take donations to help students from countries without the finances to send them be at the conference so we can represent true diversity and inclusiveness as we talk about education.
Flat Classroom® Conference heads to Europe (Germany December 6-8, 2012) and Asia (Japan March 8-12, 2013) - here's the information you need to get started to plan your trip!! Bring your students and join us! I'm taking a group of students to Germany so if you want to come early and tour with us, let me know! http://bit.ly/KchopE
Tips for planning an event (via my friend Julie Lindsay.) These are some great tips on planning an event that we're looking to take to heart for Flat Classroom.
Earth hour is 8:30 pm, Saturday March 31st. They are asking everyone to turn their lights off for an hour in celebration of this day.
This is just after ISTE. I hope that many of the ISTE people will be able to go there and vice versa.
Asia Society's Partnership for Global Learning Annual Conference will take place June 29-30 at the Brooklyn Marriott in New York City.
The two-day event connects educators, business leaders, policymakers and resource providers to share best practices, build partnerships and advance policies to ensure the next generation is ready to lead in an interconnected world.
This year's theme is "Pathways to Global Competence" and the four conference strands are:
Innovations in Teacher Practice
Exploring the Global Issues of Today
Going Global Through Technology and Media
Assessing Global Competence Through Student Work
CNN student news returns. This is a great resource!
This will be held in Washington DC. Of course, any "model" such as this will be controversial (because there are NO magic pills to solve one's ills) - but this would be interesting to listen to. January 28th 5-7 pm
Organizations are holding events about "educational entrepreneurship"- however the term isn't really used in the way I like.
I think that all teachers IN PLACE should be empowered to be teacherpreneurs -- to innovate where they are. Instead of creating NEW organizations free of regulation, why not pull constraints and requiements off of the organizations in place?
I don't have a problem w/ competition. Competition is great and I'm all for it. However, I am also FOR every classroom being a gGREAT classroom and the empowerment of teachers.
Although I am a private school teacher, I find the way that public school teachers are being micromanaged to death insulting and bothersome. Sure, there are teachers out there who are not good, but there are also politicians, business people, and others who aren't ethical either.
Shall we judge all corporate execs by Enron and total mismanagement at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?
In the ariline industry we hear about the plane crashes, but we do not hear about the hundreds of thousands of planes that fly safely every day.
I'm all for entrepreneuship in education -- I'm not opposed to it -- I just say ALONG with this, transform existing organizations into entrepreneurial ones as well.
