The genius brothers behind Google Wave - CNN.com

  • With Google Wave, the Danish brothers are trying to recreate the kind of near-ruin stress they experienced when they came up with the product that made them wildly successful.
  • His wife, Yarima, caught him practicing his pitch for Wave during the fretful slumber. He waved his hands in the air as if he were pointing at a projection screen. She knew he hadn't been sleeping in months as he prepared Wave for this presentation.

Tapping the best that is within: Why corporate culture matters.

  • All companies have cultures. However, most end up with their
culture by default, not by design. In over two decades of consulting to
organizations, from small non-profit agencies to global information
technology businesses, I have found that few organizations pay real
attention to the very thing that makes them who they are: their culture.
Culture is to organizations what personality is to individuals; it
    defines who we are.
  • were their cultures--their
core ideology and sense of purpose for existing. To be an employee of
one of these great companies means shared vision and values within the
company. In fact, common and defined vision and values is every bit as
    important as technical performance.

CES Resources NEW: View Asking the Essential Questions: Curriculum Development

    • Figure 1: Essential Questions to Shape a School's Curriculum

In every class and every subject, students will learn to ask and to answer these questions:

      • From whose viewpoint are we seeing or reading or hearing? From what angle or perspective?
      • How do we know when we know? What's the evidence, and how reliable is it?
      • How are things, events, or people connected to each other? What is the cause and what is the effect? How do they fit together?
      • What's new and what's old? Have we run across this idea before?
      • So what? Why does it matter? What does it all mean?
  • teachers need to insure that essential habits and norms are taught and learned. The following structures, roles, and strategies can be used to improve the quality of group discussion, so that students may become increasingly self-regulating and self-disciplined about their work.

Texas Skydiving

  • The static-line first-jump course

lasts about three hours, and the accelerated

freefall class about five. There are

also several breaks during the class

    for drill and practice. Static-line

jumpers usually start jumping at about

3:00, and AFF jumpers at about 4:00.

    Class size, class cooperation, weather,

    and other factors influence these

times, however. When you sign up for

    the first-jump course, you should

leave your schedule open so that you

can concentrate fully on the instruction

and jump, and not worry about being

    late for another appointment. Some

classes run as late at 8 p.m. in the

    summer.

  • The Apple iPhone's long-term competitive advantage may well prove to be the more than 15,000 new applications that have been developed for the device, expanding its functionality in countless ingenious ways.

How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live - TIME

  • service via software created by third parties. There are dozens of iPhone and BlackBerry applications — all created by enterprising amateur coders or small start-ups — that let you manage Twitter feeds. There are services that help you upload photos and link to them from your tweets, and programs that map other Twitizens who are near you geographically.
  • Last month an anticommunist uprising in Moldova was organized via Twitter. Twitter has become so widely used among political activists in China that the government recently blocked access to it, in an attempt to censor discussion of the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square

How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live - TIME

  • The mix creates a media experience quite unlike anything that has come before it, strangely intimate and at the same time celebrity-obsessed. You glance at your Twitter feed over that first cup of coffee, and in a few seconds you find out that your nephew got into med school and Shaquille O'Neal just finished a cardio workout in Phoenix. (See excerpts from the world's most popular Twitterers.)
  • We still have national events, but now when we have them, we're actually having a genuine, public conversation with a group that extends far beyond our nuclear family and our next-door neighbors. Some of that conversation is juvenile, of course, just as it was in our living room when we heckled Richard Nixon's Checkers speech. But some of it is moving, witty, observant, subversive.
