Chris Smith's Personal Learning Network (Shamblesguru Voom)
With the growth of the internet, technology and especially with web 2.0 tools it is now easier for each of us to build a unique online Personal Learning Network (PLN).
These networks often grow organically as we ourselves evolve both needs and skills ... with the increase in available information worldwide and easier access there comes a time when it's advisable to pause and reflect.

Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) are all about using web tools such as blogs, wiki, twitter, facebook to create connects with others which extend our learning, increases our reflection while enabling us to learn together as part of a global community. PLNs increase our opportunities to ask questions and receive help compared to our normal daily face-to-face interactions.
WatchKnow.org
Imagine collecting all the best free educational videos made for children, and making them findable and watchable on one website. Then imagine creating many, many more such videos. Just think: hundreds of thousands of great short videos, and other media, explaining every topic taught in schools, in every major language on Earth.
Don't Fence Them In - five-4-six
Jeff Swain argues against putting ePortfolios inside LMS/CMS's. First, and foremost, we should be helping the students develop their academic-professional selves. This means giving them the tools and the guidance to develop a portfolio that incorporates a blogging component and letting them do it in the open. For me, that's a good argument for facilitating learner development of PLE's which become artifacts of learning and knowledge/products learners have produced.

Mohamed Amine Chatti's ongoing research on Technology Enhanced Learning: LMS vs. PLE
I believe that we do need a more natural and learner-centric approach based on personal learning environment (PLE) and the freeform use of a set of lightweight tools that belong to and are controlled by individual learners.
Learning with 'e's: In person
There has been a lot of talk recently about PLEs (Personal Learning Environments) and everyone it seems, wants to know what they are, what they contain, or if they will replace current institutional VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) or LMS (Learning Management System) provision. No one seems to be able to agree on what a PLE is. I've heard several people complain recently that they can't find enough published research in the area of PLEs either.

edtechpost - A Collection of PLE Diagrams
As preparation for a workshop I am giving this fall I thought it would be interesting to collect together all the diagrams of PLEs I could find, as a compare and contrast sort of exercise. If you have others, I'd love to know about them. You can log in with the guest account (edtechpost_guest, same password) or email them to me at edtechpost@gmail.com.
